Need for Speed Underground - 2003
Underground was the game that fixed the urban imagery of Need for Speed in gamers’ memories. City racing, night-time sprints across wet roads and loads of customization options meant that you could live out your car-modding dreams without having to resort to spending a couple of months’ pocket money on a single hub cap. The game introduced drag racing and drift races, and also featured a reputation rating affecting your standing with rival driving crews. It attracted millions of Fast and the Furious fans, and sold by the garage-load. Unsurprisingly, a sequel appeared very soon afterwards.
