A once-great chef (Dougray Scott) trades in London for the countryside in an effort to get his culinary mojo back in James Hacking’s slight but appealing romcom.
There’s not much in the way of suspense – will he succeed against the odds and transform the dreary local into a glossy gastropub? Will he learn to make love not war with Claire Forlani’s sassy foodie?
But the sharp script, Scott’s charismatic lead and Simon Callow’s enjoyably scenery-chewing turn as sozzled critic Guy Witherspoon make up for the more predictable elements. Warm, sweet and undemanding, this is top cinematic comfort food.
