With rumors of a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, fans are talking about what they want and don't want Nintendo to do with it.
Last week saw a Nintendo Direct-sized bunch of leaks drop from ratings boards with Capcom's Devil May Cry 5, Hell is Us, and Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival rated for Switch 2. But it was a podcast from prominent Nintendo leaker Nate the Hate that was an even bigger blowout. And the headline act of these rumors was a remake of 1998's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which will be the big Holiday 2026 release on Switch 2.
Ocarina of Time is one of the most beloved games ever made, so naturally, fans are bound to be hyper protective of it, as is the case with other pillars of the industry like Final Fantasy 7, Super Mario 64, and GTA San Andreas, where every change will be scrutinized to no end. Given that there's already a 1:1 remake on the 3DS and the original is available on Switch 2, some feel more open to a Resident Evil- or Final Fantasy-style re-interpretation.
Article continues belowOne user on the Zelda subreddit says, "I would like it not to be a 1:1 and improve/expand/modernize many things," while another says, "I don't just want prettier graphics, I'd love it if they expand the game regions with more stuff to find." However, even with the prospect of an open-world reinterpretation, others say, "I just don't want it to be Ocarina of the Wild."
As for the remake overall, one user added that "I'm already skeptical that this remake, if it's even real, is going to do enough to justify itself," and that "I'm of the opinion that if they're going to do this they should just swing for the fences with it. People who want the original have plenty of ways to play it; I want to see something new."
Even with the faithful 3DS remake, others want more Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and less Resident Evil 2 remake, with one user saying, "I want new graphics and modern gameplay features and some expanded areas, that’s it."
At the very least, there's something everyone seems to agree with, and that's that we're all keen/terrified to see what the Dead Hand enemy will look like in 4K. And while Nintendo typically plays to a family-friendly audience, one user hopes the more terrifying elements of Ocarina of Time are enhanced, with a user saying, "Man, please go all-in within the bounds of the T-rating. Like, just give us a room that looks like Dark Souls. You know deep down you can do it, Nintendo."
