Mewgenics – the new roguelike tactical RPG from Tyler Glaiel and Edmund McMillen (creator of Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac, and more) – just hit another player record on Steam, surpassing Hades 2, but its devs are clearly hopeful that they can take down even more all-time roguelike rivals yet.
Yesterday, per SteamDB, Mewgenics hit 115,428 concurrent players on Steam, just under a week after its initial launch. As pointed out in a Twitter post by Glaiel, this means it has now surpassed Hades 2's all-time concurrent player record on Steam by over 2,000 players (it hit 112,947 Steam players shortly after leaving Early Access last September).
Previously, Glaiel tweeted after Mewgenics surpassed Vampire Survivors' peak, noting that he was "being told" that Hades 2 was the "only roguelike/lite with more peak concurrent players than us." As it happens, that's not quite right – SteamDB's ranking of the most-played roguelikes shows a handful of games still reigning supreme, including last year's indie hit Megabonk, top-down PvP roguelite Skillshot City, as well as FromSoftware's Elden Ring Nightreign.
Article continues belowMegabonk, which holds a concurrent player peak of 117,336, is Mewgenics' next target, as Glaiel notes: "Got within 2k today. theres usually a second peak later. and tomorrow is a holiday. so, its possible!"
We'll just have to watch this space over the coming hours and see if it can keep its winning streak going. Separately, McMillen has now officially confirmed a console port of Mewgenics is coming, so at some point in the future, we can certainly expect the already fast-growing player base to get substantially bigger.
