Echoes of the End is a new, cinematic, third-person action game inspired by Iceland, announced with a world premiere trailer at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.
The game sees protagonist Ryn and her scholarly companion Abram on a quest across the world of Aema to rescue Ryn's abducted brother from an empire verging on all-out war. Although, along the way, Ryn and Abram begin to uncover a long-forgotten conspiracy that might reignite a catastrophic conflict.
As their ambitious debut game, Reykjavik-based studio Myrkur Games, working with publisher Deep Silver, is focusing on storytelling. Made using Unreal Engine 5 and with full performance capture, Echoes of the End will be a cinematic and emotional adventure helmed by Aldís Amah Hamilton (Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2) as Ryn.
As a powerful vestige blessed with magical power, Ryn is adept at wielding a sword and slinging spells to take on a variety of foes, from other humans to skeletal undead and massive monsters. Based on what we get to see in the trailer, I think fans of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and God of War Ragnarök should keep an eye on Echoes of the End!
Across the game's 10 chapters, you'll be fighting through beautiful and distinctly Icelandic landscapes, from frozen glacial cliffs to scorching volcanic fields, that make up the world of Aema – a land shaped by a long history of war and magic use. Navigating such a world requires you to manipulate time and gravity, create illusions, and more to solve puzzles and traverse hostile environments, and Abram will also be with you to help.
Echoes of the End hasn't currently got an exact release date, but you'll be able to play it on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X this summer! The best way to stay up to date for now is to wishlist the game on Steam.
