The Boys' final season is officially finished as creator Eric Kripke says farewell to "the best professional experience of my life"

The final episode of the final season of The Boys is a wrap. Showrunner Eric Kripke shared the news on his social media, declaring that production of The Boys season 5 is done, and therefore, so is the entire show.

"The last color tweaks on the last VFX shots of the last episode of The Boys," reads Kripke's post. "Now 100% done. It never truly hit me that it's over, cause there was always something to work on. Until today. This was the best professional experience of my life. I hope you like it. April 8."

Season 4 of The Boys ended with Homelander essentially taking over the United States through a puppet regime. Trailers for season 5 have teased loftier goals for the nigh-omnipotent villain, indicating that he's seeking some kind of immortality.

However the show ends, Kripke has already expressed that it's happening on his creative terms, having rejected offers from Prime Video's parent company Amazon to keep it going.

"I kept saying to Amazon, 'This is going to be five'," Kripke previously stated. "They let me finish season four, and it ends with the world exploding, right? There’s really nowhere else to go except the finale. Some of the senior executives were like, 'Wait, do you really want to end it with season five?' I’m like, 'I wasn’t joking. And respectfully, you have no choice,' I mean, you cannot go back to the status quo after Homelander takes over the United States. So they're letting me end it on our terms."
