Alien: Earth and Fargo creator Noah Hawley is set to direct an English-language remake of the 2017 supernatural horror film Terrified.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley is developing the pic with Demián Rugna, the writer-director of the original Spanish-language film.
Terrified (Aterrados) follows a multi-linear narrative that concerns residents, paranormal researchers, and police in a small town that is suddenly plagued with violent, supernatural occurrences.
Article continues belowThe original film is pretty horrifying (and a certain scene involving a little resurrected boy bothered me for a few weeks after the fact). It currently holds an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and won Best Horror Feature at 2018's Fantastic Fest. Some critics have likened the film to Insidious and The Conjuring, but it's a bit like if Weapons had gruesome resurrections and Aunt Gladys was a creepy, disembodied voice that came out of a sink drain.
In addition to taking on a feature film, Hawley is pretty busy with Alien: Earth season 2 and a sixth season of Fargo. He's also still supposed to be making a Star Trek movie, but there hasn't been much news on that front. Hawley's last feature was 2019's Lucy in the Sky, which starred Natalie Portman as an astronaut who loses touch with reality.
Terrified does not yet have a release date, but Aterrados is streaming on Prime Video and AMC Plus. For more scares, check out our guides to all of the upcoming horror movies on the way and our round-up of the best horror movies of all time.
