Activision has just released a new video for Call of Duty: Black Ops, which explains how the new character customization system works. The new system doesn’t just use your characters level to unlock new content, like weapons and attachments. Instead, it supplements the online progression of your character with a new currency system.
“The currency system is a little different from purely, just a level system,” explains design director David Vondehaar.
“So, in previous games you would unlock all content based on your level. So as you progressed through the ranks, you’d unlock, say a perk. In the currency system, what happens is you unlock the main feature. So you unlock something like kill streaks or perks – and that unlocks all of them all at once. You then use the currency to purchase what you want from that category.”
