Named for its protagonist (played by Dragos Bucur), Boogie centres on a thirtysomething furniture manufacturer who’s taking a spring break at a Black Sea resort with pregnant wife Smaranda (Anamaria Marinca) and their four-year-old son.

Bumping into a couple of old school friends, ‘Boogie’ finds himself torn between family obligations and the opportunity to relive the excesses of his youth.

Writer/ director Radu Muntean slyly reveals how manly banter cloaks deeper feelings.

It may not scale the heights of the best recent Romanian films (4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days, The Death Of Mr Lazarescu) but Boogie is still a bittersweet character study.
