Producer David Heyman reacts to new Harry Potter spin-off

Producer David Heyman has taken time out to comment upon the momentous announcement of Warner's forthcoming Harry Potter spin-off, describing the project as something "very, very special".

Entitled Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them , the spin-off will be penned by J.K. Rowling herself, and will serve as an adaptation of the fictional textbook used by Harry and chums in their Care Of Magical Creatures lessons.

"I can't talk really about it yet," said Heyman, a stalwart of the Potter film series. "All I can say is that it's great. Jo had no need to go back to this universe or world.

"It's not Harry Potter per se, but the world of Harry. She's chosen to do so because she felt a need to tell a story. That she's doing it means that it's going to be very, very special."

The new film is thought to be the first in a new series, and will chart the adventures of Newt Scamander, the textbook's author, set some 70 years before the events of the first Potter story.
