Lars von Trier’s two-part sex odyssey, as he intended you to see it. The Danish provocateur’s study of an insatiable sex-addict named Joe (as a teen, Stacy Martin; as an adult, Charlotte Gainsbourg) is restored to the full five-and-a-half hours, some 90 minutes more than the watered-down theatrical version.

Much of the new material comes in Vol. II and it’s graphic with a capital ‘G’: abortions, three-ways, vaginal close-ups – you name it, von Trier packs it all in. Still, in expanding on Joe’s psyche, this take is the only way to see this full-on shaggy dog story.
