With the second film set to arrive in cinemas in a matter of weeks, and a deal already signed to direct a third film, Marc Webb is set to be immersed in the Spider-Man franchise for some time to come.
However, the director has moved to rule himself out of directing a fourth film, stating that after three instalments, it will be time for him to spread his wings and move on to something new.
“I'd like to be involved as a consultant,” says Webb of the ongoing franchise, “and I've already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else.”
Webb also made mention of the other films set to expand the Spidey universe, although it sounds as though he will only be involved with those in an advisory capacity...
“We're building out a more complicated Spider-Man universe with characters that people haven't seen in other Spider-Man movies - The Sinister Six, Venom, and more. We'd all love to overlap with other studios, but it's beyond my pay grade.”
In the meantime, Webb’s latest directorial effort will be on our screens very soon, when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in the UK on 18 April 2014.
