Gendry in Game of Thrones season 7? "Watch this space" says Joe Dempsie

Gendry recently came third in GR+'s list of Game of Thrones characters we need back in season 7 – and actor Joe Dempsie has expressed his desire to fulfil that wish in a new interview.

"I'd love to be involved," Dempsie told Digital Spy. "There's a lot of unanswered questions about Gendry and the longer it goes on, the more obvious his absence becomes," he said.

Dempsie is clearly referring to Tommen's death at the end of season 6, which arguably places Gendry first in line to the Iron Throne as Robert Baratheon's bastard son.

"I mean, God, the amount of flippin' memes I get send on Twitter… whether they'll bow to that pressure or not, I don't know. But fingers crossed, because it'd be lovely to go back."

The one bit of bad news: Dempsie says he's heard nothing yet from the show's production team.  "I'm as in the dark as anyone else," he said at a press screening for new show One of Us. "It's a bit of a loose end, and they don't make a habit of leaving them untied… I don't know. Watch this space, I guess."

Game of Thrones season 7 premieres in the summer of 2017, but as GR+ reported last month, it will be truncated to seven episodes.
