Vigil Games has confirmed that the Wii U version of its upcoming supernatural epic, Darksiders II, will be a launch title when Nintendo's new console arrives later this year. The developer also has a team assigned to managing the game's Wii U-exclusive control enhancements, lead designer Hayden Dalton has told Digital Spy.
The system's controller will allow Vigil to deliver a game that's faithful to other versions, but incorporates smoother gameplay through options such as realtime, touchscreen-driven equipment changes. “So, for instance, I could be running along and I could click on another piece and I could put it on as I'm running through the game," explains Dalton. "That's huge: it's not breaking up the game.”
Rather than altering the game to suit the controls, however, “the control system will be an enhancement of the core game,” promises Dalton. Vigil's title will be available on current machines come June 26, with the Wii U version due alongside the console's launch this holiday season.
