Gamebattles launches latest set of Xbox 360 ladders (News)

Gamebattles.com, one of the world's largest online gaming sites today announced the latest arenas that will be hitting its fast growing Xbox 360 Collection of Ladders in addition to its already existing Xbox 360 arenas spanning 6 games and home to 11 different ladders.

The announcement signals the release of both Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and Call of Duty 3 ladders at the weekend with 'kick off' tournaments in each of them letting clans battle it out to be crowned champion of Europe.

For a series that's been around as long as Tiger Woods PGA Tour has, it's pretty odd how much variation there is between platforms. The Xbox and PS2 get 21 courses and difficulty that can be tweaked to hell and back. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 gets only 12 courses, but changes out the targeting flag you've grown to distrust with a circular swathe of grass. On the one hand, at least we're not seeing the same thing ported all over creation, even if you'd have to buy half a dozen copies of the same ...

Electronic Arts announced today that the latest in the critically-acclaimed Tiger Woods franchise, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07, ships today in North America for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. The game will be available on October 27th worldwide (17 October for the United States).

Electronic Arts announced today that the latest in the critically-acclaimed Tiger Woods PGA TOUR franchise, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07, has shipped in North America for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP and PC and is now available on store shelves. Following Electronic Arts' financial announcement the company held a media and analyst conference call, during which executives elaborated on plans for current and upcoming consoles.

In regards to Sony's PlayStation 3, the company expects to have four or five titles available within the console's launch period, which EA defines as lasting from the date of the machine's retail availability until the end of the calendar year. Among these titles will be EA Tiburon's Madden NFL 07, EA Black Box's Need for Speed Carbon (preview, interview), and EA Redwood Shores' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. The other one or two titles were not named.

EA seems confident in the long term prospects of PlayStation 3, even if it takes developers some time to get accustomed to the machine. "This Christmas, it's going to be difficult to harness the full power of the PS3 on first generation software versus what will be second generation 360 games, so they're going to be more alike than different, is our opinion at this time," said an executive. "As those machines develop over time, there's a lot of horsepower inside the PS3 that we'll be able to unlock over years two, three, and four that we're very excited about." Speaking in terms of development progress on PS3 versus Xbox 360, an exec added, "We're slightly ahead of where we were on 360 at this time last year."

For many seasons, Tiger Woods PGA Tour has relied on an arcade-like feel that gave any player with functional thumbs a -15 handicap.
