Despite all the negative press that Square Enix have been getting from fans on Western Shores, Japanese gamers don't really seem anywhere near as concerned. Famitsu published a list of Japan's most anticipated games and Square Enix had a staggering 9 games from the list which had 15 titles.

What's even more interesting is that two of the titles are appearing on the 360 (Star Ocean 4 and The Last Remnant), but even though the Xbox 360 still doesn't hold much weight in Japan, it seems to peaking interest finally.

Square Enix has revealed that whoever pre-orders The Last Remnant's Xbox 360 version in Japan will receive a DVD called SQUARE ENIX x Xbox 360 TRAILER COLLECTIONS. The DVD includes around 30 trailers and TV commercials of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery in both Japanese and English.

The DVD will also include the opening FMV's of the three games, something that should be quite interesting as Star Ocean: The Last Hope will still be in development by then.

The achievements for the upcoming Square Enix RPG, The Last Remnant, have been revealed by Xbox360achievements.org. The game will feature 22 achievements for the full 1000 points, and should be quite interesting, as even the achievements that aren't secret are secret in themselves. For example, one of the achievements reads "Do you want a challenge? Defeat the monster that appears from a certain quest." Issue 23 of 360Zine is now available for free download from GamerZines.com, the portal for free digital magazines for gamers. It includes an exclusive hands-on preview of Gears of War 2, along with confirmation of an upcoming digital magazine dedicated to the game.

The issue also has the world's first English screenshots of The Last Remnant from Square Enix, exclusively available in the magazine's preview and included in an exclusive screensaver available within the magazine itself.

Continuing the raft of exclusives in the issue, the magazine has an interview with the developers of Far Cry 2 complete with exclusive screens and two exclusive desktop backgrounds, also available directly from the magazine page.

Square Enix has gone PC. On the first day of the show, the Japanese game publisher announced that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (in Europe and North America only) and PC. During a press conference following the Microsoft event, Final Fantasy XIII Producer Yoshinori Kitase discussed the new development strategy that Square Enix has taken with its upcoming games.

Aside from the new The Last Remnant game, which is being created for Xbox 360 and PS3 using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 externally, all new internally-developed games from Square Enix, including Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, and an untitled new massively multiplayer online game, utilize the new PC-based Crystal Tools development environment. These tools allow development teams to create cross-platform games.

"The content will be the same on all platforms," said Kitase. "However, we have yet to determine how many discs will be required for the 360 version. We'll have to consider the differences between formats. Currently the game is being built on PC, where it's actually functional. We're still focusing on making it work on PS3, so it's difficult to know how long the process of taking it to 360 will take."

Thanks to the new PC development platform, Kitase added, "Now that we're developing on a PC base, the pace is going a bit faster," Kitase said. "We haven't introduced new footage of the game, but we should be able to show something new in the near future."

Square Enix showed the beautiful pre-rendered trailer for Final Fantasy XIII at the end of the Microsoft press conference. The publisher has a big event scheduled for Tokyo next month where the first new information will be revealed on all Final Fantasy titles. Previously, the publisher released its online game, Final Fantasy XII, on Xbox 360 and PC.
