Saints Row 2: "We will compete with GTA"

"We wouldn't be releasing this year if we didn't think we could be competitive," says dev

Despite huge death-rays of cynicism on the issue from most of the gaming press, developer Volition has said that it thinks Saints Row 2 will be competitive with GTA IV.

Speaking at an event for the game last month, the THQ developer told the press: "We wouldn't be releasing this year if we didn't think we could be competitive.

"The only thing I know about GTA is what I've read. From what I've read it seems like they're going in a more realistic direction. For us, it's more about almost a hyper-realistic quality, over-the-top, all about these memorable moments.

"I think co-op is a huge distinguishing factor. Unless they're really holding something back, which I don't think they are." Keep your fingers crossed, guys.

As for Saints Row 2, you can read our impressions here. It is something else.

And Volition: your game looks fun, but we don't think Buddha could compete with GTA IV this year.
