SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that Universe at War: Earth Assault for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft has shipped to retailers in North America. Developed by Petroglyph, this combat-intensive real-time strategy (RTS) game thrusts players into an epic struggle to prevent total annihilation of life on planet Earth. Universe at War: Earth Assault supports Microsoft's Games for Windows Live initiative and allows cross-platform play between Windows-based PC and Xbox 360. In an effort to even the playing field, cross-platform play will be made available via free download in early April 2008.
In most Xbox 360 games, unlocking an achievement serves no other purpose than to boost your ego a bit and give you bragging rights. Occasionally you might also unlock some artwork, gamerpics or videos, but rarely do you gain something useful with your hard work. Universe at War will reward those that put in the time to unlock multiplayer achievements. Not only will you get some points, you'll also unlock a medal that can be used in multiplayer matches to give you an in-game bonus. IGN have the full list of achievements, including what medals and bonuses you'll unlock for completing multiplayer objectives.
Petroglyph's PC version of its RTS Universe at War: Earth Assault has been delayed. Originally the game was due out on November 2 for PC, but it's now been pushed back to January 2008
