Penny Arcade's Mike "Gabe" Krahulik today wrote about the sales of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. The 16,500 downloads on Xbox Live over a three-day stretch make it the third fastest downloaded game in the service's history, behind Ikaruga at 22,500 units and RezHD at 25,000 units. He also expressed his enthusiasm over the generally good reviews for the game.

According to Kotaku, the first episode of Penny Arcade Adventures was the highest-grossing Xbox Live Arcade debut ever, earning $330,000 in its first three days. These numbers were taken from VGChartz. The prior record-holder was Worms HD. In terms of units sold, On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness was the third-highest performer of 2008 - even with its higher price point.

Kotaku reports: "When a movie's major, above-the-title testimonial comes from Access Hollywood, Rex Reed, or a television station in New Mexico, chances are it's going to be a real turd of an operation. Kotaku writes: " After finishing up playing a bit of Too Human coop yesterday, I noticed a demo station of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness sitting all by itself, tucked away next to the Ninja Gaiden II stations.

Since the game wasn't getting official demos, I decided to take our 30 minute break between games to sit down with a game and take it for a test drive.

The game starts off by letting you customize your character's look and clothing. The selection isn't as robust as I would have liked to see (no luxuriously long hair guys? I'm hurt) but there's still more than enough to make the character feel like one of your own.

The game itself unwinds slowly through an amalgam of comic panel and full motion cut scenes that are both narrated by a... um... narrator. This voice is actually the only one you'll ever hear in the game. I'm told this is because fans of the web comic have their own and wildly varied ideas of how the characters should sound (For instance my Gabe and Tycho sound like Asterix and Obelix).

I was surprised at how much I enjoying playing what I did of the game. It felt very much like a blending of some of the best bits of different types of games. It has, for instance, a distinct role-playing flavor to it, but there's also a point-and-click adventure and action element to the game."

After Kotaku posted that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One had gone gold, many of you were wondering why the game wasn't showing up on the Playstation Network.

The game is currently listed only for Window, Mac, Linux and the Xbox 360's arcade.

Kotaku shot a quick question over to Tycho to find out what exactly the deal was. It's all about the hardware. Right now the Penny Arcade game will only be shipping on platforms that support Torque because that's the blood that runs through their game's veins.
