Konsole Kingz, a leading destination of multimedia content revolving around celebrity gamers and the urban gamer lifestyle, in partnership with 2K Sports, announced today it will be hosting the NBA 2K8 High Risers Tournament on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Scheduled to kick off on March 2nd, participation in the tournament is free and involves two separate competitions, each with its own set of prizes.

VGChartz has just uploaded the new hard- and software sales for the week of September 30 - October 6. Not suprisingly, Halo 3 remains the top selling game in the US with an additional 562.000 copies in its second week, which brings its total to almost 3.2 million. Nintendo DS's biggest title of the year thus far, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, debuted on second place with almost 350.000 copies. Also, NBA 2K8 on the Xbox 360 outsold NBA Live 08 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 2 with a debut of 116.000, compared to NBA Live's 102.000 on the Xbox 360. Microsofts exclusive title Project Gotham Racing 4 debuted with just 90.000 copies in its first week.

On the hardware side, the Halo 3 effect seems to still effect the Xbox 360 hardware sales as Xbox 360 hardware numbers jumped another 6% to almost 130.000. Nintendo DS was still the top selling hardware this week, despite a 5% decline to 135.000 copies. Nintendo Wii sales dropped 2% to 95.000 as Playstation 3 numbers remained at the same level with almost 30.000 units. Check out all this weeks numbers after the jump.

2K Sports games like NBA 2K8 won't have the same "sluggish" PS3 problems as EA's Madden 08, the publisher told CVG this afternoon.

"Our[PS3 version] does run at 60fps" said 2K Sports PR Manager Anthony Chau, in response to Madden 08's less smooth framerate on the PS3. He can carefully say the NBA 2K8 will run at 60fps on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

2K Games and 2K Sports have just revealed their lineup for the show, and according to Kotaku, the Games folks definitely have the edge here. They'll be showing the intriguing new shooter from Gearbox, Borderlands, as well as Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution, the first Civ game created solely for consoles and handhelds. The Sports team will be showing off Top Spin 3, NBA 2K8 and NHL 2k8. Joystiq via ESPN writes: "Electronic Arts and Midway have shelved their competing arcade-style basketball franchises, as ESPN reports that both NBA Street and NBA Ballers have been benched.

Regarding NBA Street, EA Sports boss Peter Moore explains to ESPN that the division is reevaluating its mixture of licensed and original IP, adding that "we need to develop some new things." But don't go expecting anything particularly edgy to come out of this moment of clarity. "If Wii Sports has taught us anything," adds Moore, "it's that people will sit there and play big head tennis all day long. We need to be able to tap into that audience.'"
