Mr. Driller is one of the most popular puzzle games you’ve probably never played. And while it looks rather complicated at first, its complexity really resides just a bit above something like Tetris. All you really need are quick reflexes and a good understanding of how different geometrical shapes will interact with each other when one of them is removed. ...

Last week Namco announced an arcade classic for Xbox Live Arcade in the form of Mr. Driller Online. This upgraded version of the original Mr. Driller includes high definition graphics and a variety of multiplayer modes and was slated to have a Spring release in Japan and other regions.

Well, Spring has sprung (on the 20th for those not keeping score), and Xbox Japan's official game page for Mr. Driller Online states the release date will be April 2, 2008, which is next week. It also confirms a price of 800 Microsoft Points ($10.00 USD). This isn't the first time that Xbox.com has tipped off the release date for titles before officially announced; sometimes it's spot on, and other times it's not. We advise you take this with a grain of salt, but there is a chance you'll be busting blocks with your drill as early as next Wednesday, especially since Arcade titles rarely release in one region before another.

The achievements for five upcoming Xbox Live Arcade games have been revealed by Xbox360achievements.org. The games included in the list are Rocky and Bullwinkle, TiQal, Mr. Driller, Lost Cities, and Battlezone. Lost Cities was just recently confirmed as coming to the XBLA, although no exact release date is known. Mr. Driller, however, may be a surprise to some. The puzzle game from the Playstation has not been officially announced for the Xbox Live Arcade, however we are now confirming that it is in the works and hopefully will be released soon. TiQal, the unique puzzle game, will be hitting the Arcade this Wednesday, March 26th.

Each game has 12 achievements totaling 200 points apiece. For the full achievement list of each game, visit the homepage below.

Mr. Driller Online takes the classic drilling action of the Mr. Driller series and adds online play. The basics are the same: drill down through layers of colorful blocks until you reach a goal depth. For single players, the game offers Standard Driller and Quest Driller modes. Things heat up in the four player online mode, though, which offers split screen Solo Battle, where players aim for the top score, and Tag Battle, where teams of two work together.
