Have fun with science as portal-powered puzzler Paradoxical gets a new trailer and an adorable new companion
First-person puzzler Paradoxical just got a new trailer as part of the Future Games Show's sister-show FGS Live From Los Angeles, and if the Portal-inspired gameplay wasn't enough to draw you in, your new robotic friend should definitely finish the job.
The star of Paradoxical's new trailer is EKO, your newly-introduced robot companion who helps you through puzzles and outlines the game's story. Unfortunately, things don't always go entirely to plan for your robo-pal, who starts the trailer in some kind of wormhole and ends it surrounded by a sandstorm. Those might not be great places for a tiny robot to be, but that doesn't stop EKO from coming across as extremely cute.
The rest of the trailer shows off more of Paradoxical's portal-based puzzle gameplay. The inspiration from Portal itself is pretty clear; from the never-ending fall through a pair of portals, to the arenas that might have come from the same architectural firm that Aperture Labs uses, Valve's icon is certainly making its presence felt.
But that's not to say that Paradoxical doesn't have its own mark to make. The trailer shows off innovative portal mechanics, with differing sizes or the ability to move your portals through space to adapt the puzzle arena around you. That's not always great news for EKO, but it definitely makes for a unique approach to this kind of puzzler.
Paradoxical is a little way out, with no publicly-available release date confirmed just yet. When it does arrive, however, it should be pretty easy to get your hands on, as it's heading to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, complete with Steam Deck support.
