Gamer wins Nissan in XBL tournament, wants girlfriend (News)

In Pewaukee, Wisconsin, for a 20-year-old college junior majoring in Finance, winning a brand new Nissan car in an Xbox Live tournament was apparently not enough. Dan Otto beat out thousands of other gamers playing the Nissan Sentra SE-R Forza Motorsport 2 Online Tournament. He then topped the remaining four of the competition in the Grand Final Round at the L.A. Auto Show in November.

Dec 10, 2007 Turn 10's Cars of December and Road America Track download packs are up on Xbox Live (as of 2 AM, Dec 7), giving virtual racers a new course and a selection of sweet new motors to drive. The Road America pack contains one new course (called Road America, incidentally), based on the real course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where Champ Car and American Le Mans series races apparently take place. As the air condenses and turns frosty here up in Seattle-land, Turn 10 is constantly reminded of just how thankful they all are. Turn 10 is thankful for their fans, who have supported them long after the launch of Forza 2, and continue to play the game en masse daily. As well, their thankful for the tireless energy of the community to constantly discover cool new ways of interpreting their game design, making the most out of the automotive sandbox they've built on the Xbox 360. Their also grateful for all the hard bundles that are out there this holiday season, whereby anyone who buys a new Xbox 360 (or 360 Elite) system gets to play Forza Motorsport 2 right outta the box. As a result of the spike in November 360 console sales, their seeing a nice swell of new players coming into the Forza fold. In fact, if the folks over at Vgchartz.com have their numbers right, Forza 2 turned out to be the best selling Xbox 360 game for the week ending Nov. 24th. Kinda nuts, but their excited new players are getting hooked.

Twin Ring Motegi DLC Pricing Now 400 MS Points (News)

"Hey everyone. After some back and forth with our marketing folks, I've managed to convince all parties to lower the price of our upcoming DLC track Twin Ring Motegi to 400 MS points.

I just want you guys to know that the main impetus for this is directly related to the feedback we received here on the forums - particularly the concern that 600 MS points ($7.50) requires the user to purchase a block of 1000 MS points ($12.50) from Live Marketplace, whereas 400 MS points ($5.00) only requires the user to buy a 500 MS point package ($6.25) from Marketplace.

All in all, seeing as Motegi is the first DLC track we've ever done, going through this discussion has been educational for everyone. As I've said before, the goal of DLC isn't so much a revenue generator (production costs usually far outweigh your return) but it's more of a way to keep the community engaged in your game. We wanted to make sure that we keep our eye on that goal.

Twin Ring Motegi (which includes 4 ribbons) will go live on Marketplace this Friday (10/26/07) at 9AM GMT worldwide. Motegi should show up in our scoreboard section on FM.net sometime today, and if you got the FM2 auto-update this morning, you should be able to see it in-game as well.

We're also going to launch a comprehensive Motegi track guide to go with the release at the end of today or early tomorrow morning. Look for it!

The first batch of downloadable content for Forza Motorsport 2 arrives via Xbox Live tonight at 2:00 a.m. PST. Microsoft and Turn 10 bring word of three completely free Nissan-sponsored cars -- the 2007 Sentra SE-R, Altima, and 350Z -- onto the marketplace (similar to deals made for Project Gotham Racing 3 and Test Drive Unlimited) and a Peugeot 908, as raced at Le Mans, can be purchased for 50 points, or only $0.62.

Hey, Che Chou, community manager at Turn 10 Studios, creators of Forza Motorsport 2. I have a question. When are Xbox 360 owners going to have the opportunity to pony up some Microsoft Points for new downloadable content? Three hundred cars and a baker's dozen tracks just isn't cutting it anymore. A general answer will be fine.

The general answer to that question has always been "yes," we definitely have DLC up our sleeves and will release a series of car packs and new tracks starting in August and running probably through a good chunk of fall. Forza Motorsport 2 is definitely here to stay. We're also going to continually keep an eye on community and its successes and problems, patching and tweaking where we need to and rewarding those who are especially helpful or give back to the community.
Oh, thanks, Che! I love these little conversations we have.

Talking on the official Forza Motorsport 2 website, community manager of Turn 10 Che Chou has revealed that new downloadable content is coming 'very soon', with an announcement due 'any day now'.

There are no specific details as what's set to be included in the content (or whether it'll be free or not!) but it's also due to be coupled with an auto-update set to fix certain bugs and exploits found in Forza 2 since release.

"There are some very real bugs in the game that a handful of you have encountered by chance, or have intentionally exploited for gains. These include duping cars to use in the Auction House, using a speed glitch to get super fast times on the Nissan Speedway, getting hit with a bug that gives you a time on the Test Track King Cobra track in the micro-seconds, or taking advantage of a PI calculation bug that gives the Lotus Elan an unfair advantage in its class (and hence dominating the scoreboards). There will be a Forza 2 auto-update patch that will fix these issues very soon.

"The patch will also be coupled with our first DLC pack. Why am I being so vague about dates? Well, because we've just released the thing to certification and I don't want to make any promises I can't keep -- especially if the cert team bounces it back to us. In any case, if all goes well, we'll have an announcement to make about this any day now."

A response has been posted by Christian "Squido" Owens which is the Turn 10 Test Manager. Essentially what is said is Forza 2 does not cause hardware failure, and if you're having hardware problems follow troubleshooting procedures for those problems. Included in these hardware problems are the repeated freezing or crashing many have been reporting.

In what appears to be an effort to conceal the over 900 replies gamers provided on the official Forzamotorsport.net forums about Forza Motorsport 2 crashing on the Xbox 360, Microsoft has deleted the long thread, now stating that it's "exclusive content for registered forum users" only. However, the thread was removed entirely, even to registered members. This comes after the thread was revealed and reported on yesterday, gaining plenty of attention. In the thread, hundreds of gamers posted their stories on what happened to the 360 when playing Forza 2, and expressed frustration, anger, and disappointment.

A certain thread in the Forza Motorsport 2 forums that's already reached a whopping 60 pages, and it's all about the random glitching, crashing and overall just weird behavior of the game while it's being played. While a few bugs and crashes can be chalked up to a careless glitch, there's even a few reports of the game actually causing owners' 360s to contract the all-too-horrifying red ring of death - which means that there's something not quite right with Forza 2. Earlier today a Bruce Lee car hit the Forza Motorsport 2 Auction House. Not long after the car went to 50 million then 100 million then 200 million then 500 million then 800 million then 999 million and finally over 1 billion dollars. The winning bidder oldbomb squad and other presumed cheaters include Earn your keep and NoSurrender I. The Forza community isn't happy at all about this because it shows not only is there a way to cheat but there are people abusing it. For example a normal guy on Forza Motorsport 2 would have around $50K to about $4-5 million but no where even close to $1 billion.

It has recently been announced on the Official Forza 2 forum boards that the game contains a slight bug, which appears to be confiscating virtual money from the games auction house. A few gamers have also reported that cars that they've been spending hours on customizing, have been lost whilst "gifting" them over to friends on Xbox Live. If you're experiencing any difficulties, it's perhaps best to hold-off on that transaction you were thinking of making, as the Forza crew states that they are working on a solution as we speak and shall be fixed shortly.

You know, with real money. It looks like custom Forza cars have begun to hit eBay. Honestly, we're surprised we didn't see this coming. So far we've found three different auctions for various cars, all priced at $10. These don't have the meticulous custom paint jobs we've seen, so we're guessing they're tuned more for performance. Marcel Vega from Brazilian site Xbox Today attended the Forza 2 pre-launch party and has the pics to prove it! He writes:

"Just a quick recap: the press was invited to the pre lauch party of Forza Motorsport 2 at Granja Viana´s International Circuit (for Karts). After the press event, we were given the chance to participate on 2 tournaments: one on a real track and another on the 360 (Forza 2, fo course). Both winners received a Forza 2 themed Trophy (and I almost won the Forza 2 tournament, with a memorable second place, losing only the last race).

As you can see in the pictures, there was a Stock Car there as well, as Microsoft sponsors Team Officer, where Duda Pamplona (a Brazilian Stock Car Champion) is the racer. It sure looks cools with the 360 logo on the front. Duda drove the Kart that can be seen in another picture, that also has the 360 logo on it (and it looks great)."

Elsewhere the Forza 2 pre-launch parties got as interesting as playing the game on three Samsung monitors, proving once again that, yes, Brazilians know how to party.

As gamers in the UK are left counting the days to the 8th of June when Microsoft's epic racer Forza 2 is released over here, it seems Turn 10's driving sim is mysteriously already available in certain countries.

Reports from both India and the Czech Republic are claiming that the game is out now, with the Japanese version of the game also due out today. The Czechs aside, Europe still has to hold out until the 8th of June.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines and prepare for the biggest racing event this side of Christmas: Forza Motorsport 2 has finally gone Gold, and will be with us at the end of May in the US, and the beginning of June for the EU. Also, if you've been enjoying the demo, there is a little competition for you.

Starting with the competition since that's important, you have to try and set the best time possible on the demo track in one of three specified cars. A quick warning though: thanks to the weekend disrupting the news and what-not, this competition expires on the 15th May, so you don't have a lot of time now unfortunately. Gitin from ars technica, subconscious was wrong, and the Forza Motorsport II demo did indeed appear on Xbox Live this morning for download. Since Jonathan woke up about as early as a 10-year-old on Christmas Day and there was no way he was going back to bed, he got a little face time with his most eagerly anticipated game of the last few years.
