EA are forcing GAME to sell FIFA Street 3 (which is release tomorrow - Friday) at a high price point. Reasoning behind this stems from the fact EA is refusing the sell the title to GAME at the lower price publishers usually offer to retail, thus meaning GAME has no other option but to charge the high price point to make a profit on the sale.

Furthermore, GAME will not be supporting the title in-store, refusing to display prominently, only displaying the game on it designated chart position for the week, and not pricing matching on the game due to the possibility of making a loss of the sale.

FIFA Street 3 producer explains why the game's only possible on next-gen hardware.

FIFA Street 3 is EA's latest entry in its trick-obsessed arcade football series, but it's only coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Given that the Wii's motion controllers seem a perfect fit for the fun nature of the game, Pro-G asked FIFA Street 3 producer Joe Nickolls why the team focussed on next-gen hardware.

"The horsepower with the new next-generation consoles, everyone automatically assumes the only thing cool about a next-gen console is how cool it looks and the visuals. But really what it is, is the computing power, and the power under the hood of the game," Nickolls told Pro-G.

Electronic Arts has announced development of a third iteration in the popular FIFA Street series, following a special unveiling behind closed doors at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany last week.

According to the official press release, the game is being developed by EA Canada and will be released for "next-generation consoles" some time in 2008. Substantial gameplay details and other related information have yet to be revealed, however, and it is currently unknown if the game will appear on current-generation machines and handhelds in addition to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

FIFA Street focuses on building up a small group of well-known football stars and earning themselves reputation points by performing a variety of stylistic tricks and manoeuvres. Players must then take these skills to the streets and utilize them to surpass the opposition by competing in a number of local tournaments. Familiar faces in the series to date include David Beckham, Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane.

Electronic Arts has done well for itself with most of its streetball games -- NBA Street and NFL Street both have had a solid run -- but the soccer version FIFA Street hasn't made the same impression. That said, the team is calling up the franchise for a third edition, this time with the power of next-generation consoles providing the power/stylee for what is hoped to be a fresh new start for the series.
