"Fatal Inertia EX is only going to be released on PS3 via the PlayStation network," said the Koei rep.

Fatal Inertia EX is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3's PSN in May priced $29.99.

KOEI has told Eurogamer that futuristic racer Fatal Inertia will be a better game on PS3.

The company is spending more time on it after the 360 version failed to ignite critical fuses when it was released in September. According to a spokesperson for the publisher, they're polishing up technical areas and putting together a more enticing demo than Live customers were treated to.

New content is a possibility, too, although nothing concrete is known at this point.
Fatal Inertia PS3 Coming Spring 2008 (News)

Oh, Fatal Inertia. Once announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive launch title by Koei, the Unreal Engine 3-powered racer eventually went multi-platform and released on Xbox 360 first, while the company struggled to get the PS3 version up to speed. The recent completion of Unreal Tournament III on PS3 means studios should have an easier time developing on Sony's hardware with Epic Games' engine, but that doesn't help the dozens and dozens of companies who have been attempting to make it work now.

Koei recently issues an updated release schedule to the media, with Fatal Inertia conspicuously absent from the list. When asked, the publisher said there was no formal release date for the futuristic racer, but they expected the PS3 version to arrive sometime in Spring 2008. There's no word on if the PS3 version will include additional content, but given the delays have been technical issues, 1UP wouldn't rule it out.

People can get a taste of the game right now, however, by logging into Xbox Live and downloading the demo.
Sept 12, 2007

The Xbox 360's garage is outrageously well-stocked with racers, yet Koei has spied a gap in this market, hence Fatal Inertia - what initially looks like Koei's answer to Wipeout but transpires to be more like a, well... rubbishy futuristic version of Diddy Kong ...
Koei's high speed, anti gravity racer has been delayed on PS3 due to "difficulties," but that hasn't stopped us strapping ourselves into the Xbox 360 version to capture this exclusive footage of Fatal Inertia's cockpit view.

Using the game's Velocity race mode we zoomed around two of the game's six locations. The first, Paradise Isle, is a lush, tropical environment set in the blazing sun and littered with exotic plants and sandy beaches. The second, Lost Canyon, is a much more barren and ...

A BRAVE NEW WORLD OF COMBAT RACING! In the middle of the 22nd century mankind's thirst for excitement has spawned an evolutionary sporting event that draws from the combined disciplines of rally racing, demolition derby and high-performance aeronautics. In this brave new world of combat racing, gravity-defying machines are no longer confined to the speedways and stadiums of centuries past. In this grand spectacle of racing, the amphitheatre where drivers must prove their superiority is the untamed wilderness.
Fatal Inertia. The name conjures up images of high-speed, danger-fuelled racing. A game so fast and exciting, you'll never want to play another racer again. And, if ever a game ever looked like delivering that in its screenshots, this is it. Fast, explosive and exciting. But the reality doesn't seem to be any of those things, at least after our first couple of hours playing it. Truth is, the near-finished build of Fatal Inertia we've got here seems a bit dull.

The game plays very much like ...
Sci-fi racer Fatal Inertia is now a PS3 title once again, after jumping ship more times than a pirate on a pogo stick. (Rubbish joke - sorry.)

The game was one of two titles that Koei chief Kenji Matsubara showed at Sony's PlayStation Premier this week, which came as a surprise after Koei canceled plans to release the game as a PS3 launch title, and had pledged it to Xbox 360 instead.

So it seems the futuristic hover car racer will be making its way to a Sixaxis near you soon.

KOEI has chosen the one month to release an Xbox 360 game that also sees the release of a new Halo game. Barking mad or pure genius?

Barking mad, we think. Just in case you need reminding Halo 3 is set for launch on September 26.

Fatal Inertia will hit Xbox 360s this September, while the PS3 release is still up in the air. Fatal Inertia is the debut title from KOEI's Toronto-based studio, led by producer Takazumi Tomoike famed for the Dynasty Warriors series.

More bad news for Sony this morning. Fatal Inertia, a futuristic racer originally announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive launch game, will instead be arriving only on the Xbox 360 this fall.

While the Xbox 360 version will ship on September 11, the PlayStation 3 version has been "delayed indefinitely," a Koei representative told Game|Life this morning.
Anyway, if you're unfamiliar with Koei's PS3 and Xbox 360 title, in a nutshell it's a futuristic racer that combines, erm, racing with combat and features a physics engine allowing players to do the likes of blow chunks out of the environment to obstruct the opposition. New info and screenshots released by Koei this morning fill us in on some of the game's locations...

With expectation starting to build ahead of Tokyo's annual showcase, Capcom has pledged 12 demo units of Devil May Cry 4, while Koei aims to have playable versions of some of its PS3 titles on-hand, likely to include Fatal Inertia (a launch title), Bladestorm, Ni-Oh and Mahjong Taikai IV.

Koei will also be demonstrating Samurai Warriors Wave for Nintendo Wii, while Capcom will be offering hands-on time with Xbox 360 exclusive Lost Planet, but with PlayStation 3 making its public playable debut in Japan the Sony console is understandably the focus.
