EA's Facebreaker TKO'd, Sells Just 52k (News)

The NPD Group has confirmed that EA's Facebreaker sold just 52,000 units in September across the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined. A Wii version called FaceBreaker K.O. Party is expected to launch in November.

Facebreaker's market performance was labeled "disappointing" by UBS analyst Ben Schachter. We agree. The game was supposed to represent what EA Sports could do with an all-new IP under its Freestyle brand. EA even went the extra step of putting EA Sports boss Peter Moore in the game. Somehow the game's over-the-top characters and arcade gameplay didn't click with consumers.

Ironically, EA Sports earlier this week issued a statement to boast about its improving Metacritic scores, but Facebreaker has an average score of 54 on Metacritic.

You played the demo, so now take a look at an early exclusive of the achievements for FaceBreaker! The game will feature 27 achievements for the usual 1000 gamerpoints. Oh, and we can't forget that the game has 1 secret achievement.

Of the 27 achievements, you'll be able to gain points for uploading videos, playing 50 ranked matches, and beating specific players during the game. Of the list, the most creative achievement we could find is "The Best D is a Good O," which you can get for winning a match without blocking, parrying, or dodging. Did we mention it has to be done in a ranked game?

The bodacious Kim Kardashian makes an apperance in EA Sport's cartoony boxing game, Facebreaker. The celebutant, known from her reality TV show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians (and a well-publicized sex tape), shows off the game's Photo Game Face mode, which allows anyone to scan their faces into the game using an Xbox Live Vision cam or the PlayStation Eye and then stick it on a customizable avatar. The FaceBreaker Demo is now available on Xbox LIVE, and will follow on the PlayStation Network on August 7th. The demo features characters Sparrow, Ice and Steve going at it in the fast-paced boxer, as well as the game's custom face generator called Photo Game Face. Photo Game Face will allow gamers to upload a cartoon likeness to the FaceBreaker online boxer gallery at EA SPORTS World. Created boxers will all be available for download – and can be shared with the world - when FaceBreaker ships to retailers on September 3. Players can use an XBOX LIVE Vision camera or a PLAYSTATION Eye camera to upload themselves – or someone else - directly onto their consoles, or alternatively use a regular photo. Transform your created boxer with 60+ customization options to play with, a full color palette and a closet full of costumes.

The face, which is creepily accurate, can be attached to any of the bodies and manipulated. Peter asserts that he suits a more chiseled look but the demonstration featured him as a blue monkey."
