Edge writes: "In a matter of days Fable 2 has become a huge success story for UK-based developer Lionhead. Yesterday it climbed straight to the top of the UK charts, becoming the first Microsoft title to do so since Halo 3. Sales figures also show it has become the fifth-fastest-selling game in UK history, outselling the original Fable's launch-week performance by a ratio of nearly 4:1.

Those figures alone are enough to make any developer, publisher and shareholder utterly delighted, yet Fable 2 has done something more than please those involved with it. Fable 2 has become a symbol of success in the context of discontent from within the UK game development sector.

"I think Fable 2 shows that UK studios have the talent, drive and collective strength of character to focus on innovation, craft and mood rather than simply playing safe and churning out something approved by numerous committees of grey men in greyer suits," the game's design director Dene Carter told Edge. "Ultimately, the big franchises have to come from somewhere. You don't create money-making IP just by playing catch-up.'"

As we reported the day of its launch, some many copies of the Fable 2 Limited Collector's Edition were shipped without their precious DLC voucher card, which, among other goodies, let players unlock "Hal's Armor." Microsoft initially told purchasers who found themselves sans-card to call the company's 800 support line; it now has a support page from which anyone with a valid Windows Live ID can request the codes via email.

Microsoft's Fable II has stolen the number one slot in the UK all formats chart this week.

The 360 exclusive takes the top spot after just three days of sales and along with new number two Far Cry 2 knocks PES 2009 down from the number one slot it claimed last week.

Glitch? Ability you gain as a good character? Shout out to the world's greatest real wizard besides Dumbledore? Jonathan Zungre of Ripten doesn't really know, but his buddy's morally good monk character in Fable 2 started inexplicably hovering inches above the ground with his arms up, much like Criss Angel does every day with just the strength of his will.

And the fat monk didn't lower his arms or stop levitating when he went to a new area or aimed the crossbow either. Click that link to see the weirdness.

1up.com writes: Even after yesterday's word of freezing issues, it seems that Fable 2 is still struggling with a few bugs, reports Xbox 360 Fanboy. These two seem even more dire than yesterday's report, possibly breaking the game or wiping out gold and experience.

The first occurs during the "Monk's Quest" mission, in which players need to speak to the Abbot of the Temple of Light in Oakfield. If players leave the temple before finishing the conversation with the Abbot, they are unable to resume the quest -- which means they can't finish the game. The second bug occurs when a "Hero" player go into co-op mode with a player still in the "childhood" phase of the game. Apparently the Hero character will have his or her experience and gold completely wiped out this way, which is a pretty brutal punishment for playing with a less experienced friend.

Lionhead is working on a title update to fix both issues (and, we can hope, the freezing), but for now advises players to finish the conversation with the Abbot and to only play co-op with people who have finished the childhood stage. We'll keep you updated on when to expect an update, and if we hear any other bugs gnawing at this big fall release.

It appears that Fable 2 may not quite live up to the hype. In fact, according to Co-Optimus, it looks like we've all been misled as to how the cooperative mode actually functions. Players are unable to bring their character into their friend's game, instead they are stuck with a pseudo random henchman character. To make matters worse there are reports of save damaging bugs and camera glitches.

Joystiq has received a couple reports this evening that some copies of the Fable II Limited Collector's Edition package do not contain the cards required for the in-game DLC content. A GameStop source tells them a company wide email notes that cases bearing an orange "48 hours of LIVE"' sticker include the cards, but copies without the sticker do not.

Although they've only heard about this being a GameStop issue so far, the same situation could be occurring at other retailers. Joystiq has contacted both Microsoft and GameStop for comment.
