The first 50 Cent game has sold a nice 1.1 millon games, but his latest game (Blood on the Sand) has only sold 56.000 copies (in 2 months). That's not really impressive, and we think that 50 Cent games become to the history from now.'

Better reviews don't seem to be helping 50 Cent's newest video game.

Despite earning higher review scores than 2005's 50 Cent Bulletproof, February's Blood on the Sand has sold an estimated 56,000 copies in the U.S. between its February launch and early April.

Its predecessor did far better.

In its first two months of release in the fall of 2005, Bulletproof sold 681,000 copies, en route to lift-to-date sales of 1,123,000 units, according to NPD.

The original game had a Metacritic score of 47; the new game has a 71 and has been described as a guilty pleasure on some of the top gaming podcasts and review sites.

411mania gives a rundown on this week's game releases. Highlights include Legacy of Ys: Books I & II, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, Stoked, The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Legacy of Ys: Books I & II (DS)
Ys I and II have seen many ports and remakes since the first one came out in 1987; they've seen the light of day on such systems as the PC-8801, Famicom, Master System, DOS, Apple II, Saturn, and PS2 to name a few. The most widely-known versions are contained in the TurboGrafx-CD compilation, and for years that release was considered the best. It's place at the top was eventually challenged by Ys Eternal as it sported upgraded graphics, effects, and artwork as well as extras like new characters and scenarios. Unfortunately, Eternal didn't include voiceovers and some say that the remixed music was not as good. Apparently, enough people weren't satisfied so another update known as Ys Complete, which is said to have better graphics but an inferior soundtrack, was unleashed. Despite my best efforts, I could not find any agreement amongst Ys fans as to which official release is the definitive version since each of the three does at least one thing better than the others.

Preferences aside, there is one thing that fans of the first two Ys games can agree on no matter which version they've played - Ys I and II have some of the best music you will find in a video game. Every place I visited for info makes note of how awesome the soundtrack is. Knowing this, I questioned whether or not it was a good idea to play the games on the DS for the first time when I could just as easily track down the PC version and patch it or download the Wii VC one. Granted, Legacy of Ys comes with a free soundtrack if you preorder and it is portable. Maybe it would be easier to just flip a coin...

THQ announced today that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand has shipped to retail outlets, for PS3 and Xbox 360. Developed by Swordfish Studios, the 50 Cent: Bulletproof sequel allows players to play as one of the world's biggest hip-hop stars in an all-out battle to protect 50 Cent's assets and to collect payment from a crooked overlord. The game will feature multiplayer drop-in and drop-out co-op, interactive counter-kills, driving, and aerial combat.

The hip-hop icon talked to MTV News in the G-Unit offices near Madison Square Garden about "50 Cent: Blood on the Sand," out today on Xbox 360 and PS3.

You may think of 50 Cent first as a rapper, but the man's life is now filled with video games, including titles of his own. First there was "50 Cent Bulletproof," then a PSP spin-off and now "Blood on the Sand." The latest takes 50 to a Middle Eastern-looking city to chase down a crystal skull that's been stolen from him and his crew. The new game has 18 unreleased 50 tracks, plus hits from several G-Unit and 50 albums and a score from Swizz Beatz.

During the 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand demo videogaming247 were privy to at Sierra Spring Break 08 in Mallorca last week, game director Julian Widdows confirmed that the game will be locked at 30 frames a second and that two-player online co-op would be featured.

"If someone was joining now their Gamertag would appear over that player's head," he said, pointing at one of Fiddy's "crew".

Julian Widdows, game director of 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand, has told videogaming247 that developer Swordfish Studios removed the "n-word" from the final script, but that it may make an appearance in the final game.

"In the original scripts we actually took it out," he said, speaking at the Sierra Spring Break 08 in Mallorca.

"We'll see how the finished game works out. In the first game it was included as it was all part of the street environment so it was deemed acceptable, but watch this space on that."

We interviewed Widdows later that day and brought up the subject again.

VG247: Is that a decision you guys have to make, or is that upstairs?

Julian Widdows: That's upstairs. However, we obviously have our own thoughts and feelings on that and they're shared with [Vivendi Games].

CVG writes: "We all wondered what the "fantastic" UE3 game was all about at Swordfish Studios, when Epic VP Mark Rein said he was "blown away" by an early preview last year. It turned out to be 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, and as it happens, game director Julian Widdows was well chuffed by the comments.

"When we heard he was coming we were like 'oh no, we're gonna get killed!' But he was over the moon, we're chuffed about it," Widdows told CVG in an interview.

'We're obviously an Unreal Engine 3 licensee and he just came in for a visit and said 'oh my god, I can't believe you're working on this, it looks phenomenal'. That was it; it wasn't anything particularly formal, he came in to say hello to his licensees and was blown away by it. That was great for us.'"
