Haha ya I forgot the biggest debates about gaming today is what 'gimmick' is better. Last time I checked it was the never ending graphics over gameplay war and I am sorry but gimmick does not equate to either. I have been touching a screen to play kid and mini games since the app store came out. It's not an innovation anymore, especially not one by Nintendo and it get's old fast. Having a game that just blows you away visually or gameplay that just feel right will always win over. PC is one of the oldest gaming platforms around still and is still going extremely strong with no gimmicks, just updated graphics and gameplay every so often is all it needs to thrive. I am insulted that he put Nintendo and innovation in the same universe.

Can't really say PC is one of the oldest gaming platforms as PC hardware iterates year over year, and no 2 gaming PC's are the same. Unless you own a PC that is incredibly old and out of date, and then you aren't really playing anything new and fantastic on it. Console gaming was around decades before the personal computer even existed.
  • MoonDevil - November 27, 2012 9:34 a.m.

You are either too young to know or remember, too stupid to have a clue of what you are talking about....or BOTH. PC's have existed long before a console was ever a blip in someone's mind. The Apple II E Basic computer and others run with early Microsoft software had games that were on these things called Floppy discs. The games were even so much as simply being text only, generating gameplay based on you response or input to a query. Every thing you have stated is not only complete is blatant stupidity attempting to be seen as expertise and knowledge, when it is quite simply beyond moronic absurdity based on facts and history you have no clue about.
  • Bloodstorm - November 27, 2012 9:59 a.m.

The very first console, the Magnavox Odyssey, was released in 1972.
  • MolokoVeck - November 27, 2012 10:59 a.m.

Technically the first "personal computer" was the Simon, introduced in 1950. However, since I assume you are referring to graphical personal computers, then I would like to refer you to the Imlac PDS-1. The Imlac PDS-1, introduced in 1970, was the first personal computer with graphics. Granted, these were not widely used for playing games, but your claim that "console gaming was around decades before the personal computer even existed" is patently absurd. That very statement, combined with your observation that the Magnavox Odyssey was the first console, suggests that you believe personal computers were invented in 1992 at the earliest (two decades after the 1972 introduction of the Odyssey). Oh, by the way, the first console was the Brown Box (1967).
  • Bloodstorm - November 27, 2012 12:15 p.m.

Admittedly, I was unaware/misinformed about home PC entering the market, as well as consoles, thinking the first console came out in the mid 60's and the first PC late 70's/early 80's, an over exaggeration at most had that been true. However, it still stands that PC gaming is hardly the elder of gaming platforms, around 5 years after the first console is when PC gaming really became dominant use of home computers. Also, Brown Box was the prototype of the Magnavox Odyssey, and never a retail product (until the Odyssey that is).
  • Bloodstorm - November 27, 2012 12:50 p.m.

Also, you'd be hard pressed to categorize the PDS-1 as a PC, as they were large, cost 4x that of a car in those days, and were mostly bought by Universities. It was the first graphical display for a computer system, but hardly a personal computer.
  • sandplasma - November 27, 2012 12:21 p.m.

"Console gaming was around decades before the personal computer even existed" lol lol lol
  • Bloodstorm - November 27, 2012 12:29 p.m.

And I've corrected myself on that false account. It is still accurate to say that Console gaming has existed just as long, if not longer than PC gaming.
  • Bloodstorm - November 27, 2012 12:37 p.m.

It is no more preposterous, or misinformed than the claim "PC's have existed long before a console was ever a blip in someone's mind."

Hasn't anybody else stopped to realise that half of the Wii U "launch titles" were also released for 360/PS3 and/or some of them have been out for ages already (Darksiders 2 came out in August). I could just as easily go down to the shop and buy a 360 dirt cheap and buy BLOPS 2, and then have enough money left over (assuming I had enough to buy a Wii U and BLOPS 2 Wii U edition) to buy another game from the already expansive 360 game library. I don't think Nintendo's silly little iPad with knobs and buttons is going to being swaying me anytime soon. As for the people who have already bought this.. two words.. Parents... Christmas.... They'll buy bloody anything!

This guy is so full of shit it's blasting out of his mouth like a damn fire hose. If the system is as good as he claims I don't understand why he needs to talk about it. If it is THAT good it should sell itself. No, what I think this is about is that a group of marketers looked at the Wii U and reported that it needed a boost in marketing, that it can't stand on it's own merits. So they take Reggie and tell him to go out there and reinforce the idea that Nintendo is King and that everyone else is following their train of gimmicks, so you may as well buy it from the people who started the gimmicks in the first place. And no one can say that the touchpad shit isn't a gimmick, without being so deep in denial the only heat they can feel is from the core of Denial Planet in the Opinion galaxy, located in U Mad? Star Cluster in the Childish Dimension.

If it wasn't for Pokemon, I would so dump Nintendo Consoles.
  • xx_CaPTiiN_SpAiiN_zz - November 27, 2012 12:23 a.m.

play it on an emulator then...
  • avantguardian - November 26, 2012 5:13 p.m.

this guy is such a tool.
  • Smash_Bro - November 26, 2012 4:59 p.m.

Jesus, Reggie, calm down with the Wii U over-hype. I mean, I'm a hardcore Ninty fan, and I'm really loving my Wii U, but don't be semi-slamming the competition so early. Or publicly. I 100% agree, though, that graphics will only get so good, and that Microsoft and Sony will have to think of other ways to prove that they're worth the investment. I love Xbox too, but other than pretty pictures and exclusives--*coughHALOcough*--I really have no reason to even consider buying a 720 (yet). Dying are the days where power and graphics were all that mattered.
  • Evanesco - November 26, 2012 4:31 p.m.

This guy needs to shut up. Seriously. It's like he's under the impression that Nintendo is all of a sudden on the same level with Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo built a console that's equivalent to a console built 7 or 8 years ago. The console is in the same stages the 360 and ps3 were at first, getting first party games to run on the console and look better than they did, and getting games to actually fill the library. Microsoft and Sony already have that established and running into their newer consoles which will undoubtedly outperform the current console generation by yards over their lifespan. He's mouthing off his own sense of denial, basically, of the fact that his company is about 8 years too late to the hardcore market party. Just stick to Mario and Zelda Reggie, and let the big boys play the real games.
  • 7-D - November 27, 2012 7:12 p.m.

What are the big boys playing these days then?
  • momshotdad - November 26, 2012 4:22 p.m.

I'm the biggest Nintendo/Reggie fan on the planet but he's talking some serious sh*t today.
  • mentalityljs - November 26, 2012 4:17 p.m.

All depends on the APU caches and quality of the northbridge to avoid latency issues. If the northbridge is shit it won't matter how much RAM it has. More doesn't always mean better in this case. I feared the reality of them deciding on an APU for the build, but realistically, the lack of a seperate video card would allow a little extra room for proper cooling this time around, and thats a plus.
  • mentalityljs - November 26, 2012 4:20 p.m.

    woops, wrong article :P
  • lazer59882 - November 26, 2012 3:58 p.m.

since it's already established that Reggie is a complete ass who speaks nothing but company line, and has pretty much jumped the shark, can we talk about his picture? how have i seen this same picture on pretty much every article about him everywhere, for the like the last 10 years? i mean...he's not a good looking guy, but fuuuck that's gotta be the most unflattering picture ever.
