Watch Dogs delayed to spring 2014

Shares

Ubisoft has delayed Watch Dogs until spring 2014. The open-world hacking game was originally set to release in November alongside PS4 and Xbox One and on current-gen systems, but the publisher said in an update on the UbiBlog it needed more time to deliver "what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming."

"We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game," the update states. "But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience."

If you pre-ordered the game, particularly in a bundle with a new PS4 or Xbox One, make sure to contact your retailer of choice to see what your options are.

I guess I have an excuse to get a PS4. I was planning on picking this up for the 360 without a pre-order. I'm not super upset at this. The delay gives me more time with Arkham Origins and (maybe) Black Flag.

    Huh, Ubi does it again.

I'm annoyed that it's not coming out this year since I was going to get it for 360 but considering i'm getting the PS4 next year when Infamous: Second Son comes out that way I can get Watch Dogs as well as Infamous.

There is enough good stuff coming out that I'm not really bothered by this, and I have a small gut feeling that it also could have something to do with Assassin's Creed 4. Releasing your two biggest (most expensive to make) games in the same month can and most likely will hurt your sales, so it would make sense to spread them out.

You sir just hit the nail on the head!

I'm glad Ubi now has some additional time to polish and eliminate any and all bugs, but I have a very strong feeling that this wasn't a Quality Control issue, it's just too late in the game. I mean give it another week and they would've already started cranking out disks and putting them into boxes. I think this is because "GTA V" looks incredible on current-gen consoles and "Watch Dogs" doesn't. Current-gen still has the majority of the market share and no-one's going to buy a game, an OPEN-WORLD game no less, that wasn't optimized for those platforms when GTA V, which looks great and plays amazingly, exists. This was a very intelligent (albeit very disappointing) business decision...and now I have switch my second PS4 per-order to something else again.

Well, then, I'm happy I preordered the Amazon PS4 BF4 bundle and added Watch Dogs in addition to it (rather than getting the WD bundle and adding BF). I could have had a bit of a hassle on my hands.

Another bonus to not getting a PS4 until next year anyway.

This is fine by me. With GTA V still not in my possession due to being broke, I probably wouldn't have gotten to it when it came out anyways.

I'm actually relieved a bit. Too many games out right now, and far too many irons in the fire.

This applies to all versions, even current-gen consoles and PC too, huh?
  • GR_HenryGilbert - October 15, 2013 10:23 a.m.

Yup, this goes for every version

I'd rather have a better game later than a buggy game now.

Agreed. Why can't more people be like you (and me), and realize it's actually GOOD with delays (most of the time), since that means less bugs and other errors when the games finally DO come out.. But NO, Instead people whine about having to wait a little longer for something they already HAVE waited for.. I wish people could be more understanding of these things..
