The Wizard Of Oz 3D review

There’s no place like Oz

MGM’s evergreen classic never needed a 3D IMAX makeover to cast its magical spell. Yet it surely doesn’t hurt, if only for the novelty of seeing the munchkins blown up to the size of double-decker buses. OK, so the crystal-clear upgrade tends to highlight the pic’s inherent artificiality. (Check out the Cowardly Lion’s make-up and all those 2D painted backdrops.)

But the moment a sepia-toned Judy Garland starts warbling ‘Over The Rainbow’, though, it’s impossible not to surrender to a film whose appeal remains undimmed no matter how many prequels, reboots and anti-Thatcher campaigns try to gatecrash its legacy.
