The Golden Compass review

It's bad enough that it's a movie tie-in; the fact that it's broken makes it even more insulting

Pros

  • Reading the book
  • Seeing the movie
  • Multiplayer - so you don't suffer alone

Cons

  • The placeholder graphics
  • The pointless conversation minigames
  • Wasting even five minutes on this game

Can’t Sega even be bothered to finish making the game before trying to pawn it off on us? Placeholder graphics, unfinished textures and sloppy physics are just a few of the sadistic treats this game has to offer - and the suck doesn’t stop there. Between a clumsy rendering of the original story and a golden compass minigame that’s about as effective as a magic 8 ball, there is absolutely no good reason to buy The Golden Compass on DS. If you absolutely have to have some videogame representation of Phillip Pullman’s book-turned-movie, check out one of the console tie-ins. At least those graphics are finished.
