TGS 2011: Nintendo reveals Fire Emblem 3DS

Shortly after revealing Mario Tennis 3DS, Nintendo showed a few seconds of footage from another popular series we too frequently forget exists: Fire Emblem. The new game looks much like the others, with 2D tactical combat on a grid-based map, but this time, it’s going to pop out of the screen in 3D. Well, we assume, we don’t technically have confirmation on that point.

What we do know is that it’s going to be an original game, and it will supposedly be out on 2012—at least in Japan. It’s also going to feature two-play cooperative play, though we’re not exactly sure how that will work. Beyond that we don’t have much beyond the brief footage they showed. Hopefully our team on the show floor at Tokyo Game Show will be able to gather more information, though we wouldn’t be all that surprised if the footage we got is all we’ll see for a few months.

Oh, d'arvit. If they didn't translate the last Fire Emblem, the remake of Book II of Monsho no Nazo...

    *begs Nintendo for translation*

Why did they never bring FE6 after releasing FE7 as Fire Emblem? Seriously, it's been fan-translated for years, it had the exact same sprites, and it was needed to make any sense of Fire Emblem's ending.

Sweet! I didn't expect to see a Fire Emblem game so soon. Definitely looking forward to this.

Awesome, love Fire Emblem. Also glad to see it is an original, Shadow Dragon has a really blasè story compared to others released in the US. I wouldn't mind remakes of Genealogy of the Holy War or Thracia 776, I've heard both are fantastic games. Or Sword of Seals, if nothing else than to tie up the story of Blazing Blade.

I must say, from what I recall seeing of this game already, I'm already hooked.

This better release in US. It's so disappointing when you can say you've beaten every Fire Emblem game you can, but it's still less than half of the series. I say more translations already. I want to play more Fire Emblem.

If this doesn't come to the US i will be so depressed.
  • PanicJester - September 13, 2011 4:02 a.m.

They need to start making fire emblem games more often, at least one every year. =P
  • SpadesSlick - September 13, 2011 3:27 a.m.

It's been freaking forever since we have gotten an original handheld fire emblem and frankly I cannot wait to play it.
  • shawksta - September 13, 2011 2:08 a.m.

    Yay, New Fire Emblem ^_^
  • AuthorityFigure - September 13, 2011 12:37 a.m.

Yet another console game down-sized for a lesser unit. Why? Cheaper to develop and greater profit margin using a built-in audience.
  • shawksta - September 13, 2011 2:42 a.m.

Firstly, are you kidding me,your seriously saying that? Why WOULDNT you want more series coming to the 3DS, its called giving variety? You WANT it to be filled with garbage? Second, Fire Emblem has been more of a handheld series, the GC and Wii game are just a bonus
  • samsneeze - September 13, 2011 5:58 a.m.

Exactly how does putting a Fire Emblem game on a console result it in being garbage? I mean it seems like you're just disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. I'm pretty sure there have been more console Fire Emblem games. I mean six and seven were for the GBA and the Shadow Dragon remake for DS. That's a total of three unless my count is wrong.
  • FOZ - September 13, 2011 2:05 p.m.

What the hell are you talking about?
  • Gavo - September 12, 2011 10:27 p.m.

I really hope they ditch the 3-D modeling that was in Shadow Dragon for the DS, the fights looked atrocious. The GBA ones looked much, much better.

Were those the only two? Hope not.
