Shinn A 1.5 million dollar episodic project that keeps or money if it doesn't deliver? My common sense is tingling...

There's a part of me that wants to believe so badly in this project. I bought a gamecube shortly before I got my own place (we already had a PS2, it belong to my brother and I), and Eternal Darkness was one of the few games I could lord over my PS2 owning friends. But I read the Kotaku report, I saw everything that happened with Dyack's other projects. Heck, I donated $60 bucks to his team when I bought the unfinished PoS Too Human and spent $1.50 at redbox to see how bad his X-Men game was (answer: really, really bad).

Frankly this whole Kickstarter fad is a bit sketchy. In the post where the management added some requirements regarding risks and challenges a project faces they voiced what I've long thought at least regarding video game Kickstarters: a lot of people think it's a store and they are just plopping down pre-orders. Now I haven't read the fine print so maybe I'm completely off base... but what happens if it doesn't pan out. Say they can't pull it off like the Ouya naysayers claim. Do you get a refund? If they go bankrupt what kind of protection do you have on that investment? That's not even mentioning petty concerns like what if the game gets delayed or turns out to be crap? Pretty sure you won't be able to just return it. It will be interesting to see how this all goes down a few years from now. Tim Schafer better planning a good ending for that game, people were trying to drum up a class action suit against Bioware over ME3... now imagine if those same people had actually funded development. In general I think it's a great concept and with trusted devs you are probably making a safe bet. With a dev like 3D Realms, who apparently have spent the last 10+ years and untold sums of cash on Ferraris and hookers rather than on the actual game they were paid to produce, not so much. TBH I'm nearly inclined to flat out label this a scam... it's doubtful they'll ever get a big time publisher to invest in them again and they still got those car payments lol. Most of the previous game devs that showed up on Kickstarter have been "underfunded but critically acclaimed" not "desperate and the running gag of the industry"
