o.O Wait wait, Lucina AND Robin!? On top of having Ike already confirmed? Woah. Still might have preferred other character that wasn't a lord or a sword wielder, but it looks like Robin will at least be able to use magic, so that at least is DIFFERENT from every other fucking FE character that has appeared in smash so far >_>
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 8:56 a.m.

Oh, and Marth, which I ahd forgotten is also confirmed in the game. ...For Fuck's sake Nintendo, you have a wonderful series, filled with varied characters that go from axe-wielding berserkers, armored spearmen, archers, mages and even friggin' dragon shifters... And from that pool you pick 3 characters that are essentially the same in weaponry, class and style, with one being SO similar he even POSES as the other in the fucking game... Once again, Nintendo fails to make sense, yay!
  • Vonter - July 14, 2014 11:14 a.m.

Well to be fair this game tries to be more balanced than Brawl (we'll see). If anything I expected Tharja more than Robin due to her exposure for that game, Lucina was very likely. Anyway it seems to be a main theme with this game the customizable characters, with the Villager, the WFT, the Miis and Robin having both genders.
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 12:05 p.m. is the inclusion of Lucina over any other, more different character making the game in any way more balanced? Your defenses make no sense sometimes :p
  • Vonter - July 14, 2014 2:38 p.m.

Well she is very similar to another veteran hence making balance tighter. Also IMO axe characters are boring :p If anything I could have been impressed of a mounted unit, but then we have size issues. Ans lastly this game is ditching transformations so that may be a factor on why dragon or animal shifters weren't considered.
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 6:02 p.m.

...Which contrasts with Sakurai previous claims that he would be "toning down" clone characters >_> As boring an axe character could be, can't be more boring than what's essentially a palette swap for marth :P Even without bringing mounts or shapeshifters into the mix. You still have mercenaries, assassins, berserkers, soilders, generals, snipers, mages, priests, or shamans to choose from. All of them have none of the problems you mention above, and any of them would be way more varied and interesting than yet another fucking sword wielding lord. Heck, if they were so intent on using only lords, they could at LEAST chosen Ephraim, he has the decency to use SPEARS for a fucking change >_>
  • Vonter - July 14, 2014 6:30 p.m.

Well there still some newcomers to be revealed yet. Although Sakurai has stated we're reaching the last reveals. Will the rumors about Shulk and the Choir boys be true? Or we will be dumbfounded by an unexpected inclusion. Who knows, and that is kind of the fun.
  • shawksta - July 15, 2014 1:17 p.m.

You gotta feel bad for Shulk, i was actually rooting for him to get his stardom after the localization fiasco with Xenoblade. I mean, there atleast exists a Rhythm Heaven enemy in Smash Run, yet nothing from Xenoblade, i think the poor guy actually is getting shafted.
  • Vonter - July 15, 2014 1:25 p.m.

I actually believe we'll get something, that Tweet was for something, either for a character, a stage, a trophy. And with Xenoblade Chronicles X coming, I don't see why they will not promote that universe through Smash. Anyway it's being confirmed that before the next month ends we'll know the full roster. So they'll have to push quicker the veterans. Ness and Metaknight are worryingly still absent. Also I want to see more HD stages, I mean an F-zero stage will really mouth water the prospect or another game, or Star Fox who is also futuristic and is having a new game. Also I'll like another Mother stage, maybe from the first one.
  • shawksta - July 15, 2014 1:52 p.m.

I honestly think people are pushing it with the tweets, the devs are simply tweeting for the various Nintendo events, not just this. and back in february, Next Level games tweeted the direct, to which Little Mac was announced, except they stated they were never told that Little Mac was in smash. Though maybe because Monolith soft is as japanese as Nintendo they might know, but im still skeptical. Eh, corocoro said that same exact statement with Brawl except all they did was reveal characters that were already confirmed. Im pretty sure Sakurai is still keeping some secret characters, he loves keeping secrets. Remember, he spent a a big budget to make people believe with all the trailers that Medua was the one and only major antogonist in Kid Icarus Uprising. And we all know how THAT went.
  • Vonter - July 15, 2014 2:06 p.m.

Yep, that guy seems to be familiar with Smash discussions given some of his most blatant trolls. Even if we assume Ridley is a boss, I don't know what to think, because he has just teased the fact he is but hasn't yet show it despite having several pics of the Pyrosphere. Also I don't know if you knew but it seems Smash Run will have bosses appearing at random, and I almost sure someone said Kraid was one of them.
  • shawksta - July 15, 2014 7:42 p.m.

There is too much wrong with the Ridley debate right now. They are clearly teasing him heavy, they never mentioned Ridley by name, despite how easily every other stage hazard and assist trophy are called out. For what purpose, we cant determine, for all we know they probably think we are hyped for him being a stage hazard. Though even if he is a Boss, there is still some exceptions. Everybody thought Toon Link was deconfirmed back at E3 2013 when he was in the background of the spirit tracks stage, only for Alfonzo to take his place. There's also the fact that the stage hazard in pyrosphere is Other M Ridley, who is a clone and not the real ridley. I heard, though its not fully confirmed, but a Nintendo representative at Nintendo World did say it to Kirbopher, also one thing that is very striking to my heart along with kraid as a smash run boss is "A Large Kremling" 2 Things 1. K. Rool is a smash run boss 2. Another Kremling entirely is a Smash Run boss, which could possibly push K. Rool as a character if this happens to be true and i find it odd that the Nintendo rep was able to flat out say Kraid's name but not the Kremling, giving me a small tiny hope that K. Rool might be playable.
  • Vonter - July 14, 2014 11:18 a.m.

Also unexpectedly Nintendo asked for a Rayman model from Ubisoft, to make a trophy out of it. Yep, Nintendo fails to make sense in that way too.
  • shawksta - July 14, 2014 12:03 p.m.

We havent seen what Lucina offers yet, and despite her being in, Robin is the more important focus mixing both sword and magic. Lucina just seems to be there. Look at the bright side, better than Chrom.
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 12:13 p.m.

Exactly how much more different can you make a swordfighting lord from already two others from the same series? Specially when Lucinda is so damn similar to Marty in looks and build. It occurs to me that lucina might be a gender swap for Marty. But if so, why reveal her as if she were her own character?
  • shawksta - July 14, 2014 12:23 p.m.

I have absolutely no idea, even Sakurai's miiverse didnt explain Lucina yet, his focus is on Robin. Maybe tommorrow we'll get info. Maybe she actually IS Marth's alt, or just an easy to put in clone because of waifu material that the fanbase wont stop talking about.
  • Vonter - July 15, 2014 1:30 p.m.

... We'll know the full roster before August ends, so we'll see.
  • shawksta - July 20, 2014 10:24 p.m.

Actually it was just confirmed that Corocoro is only showing CONFIRMED characters, at the time that is, if were lucky we'll get another pair of newcomers. Actually, Nintendo is planning a big event at Comic Con, with a bunch of Wii U games including a Smash Bros 3DS Tournament, "With a few surprises" something to keep in mind, but it might not be simply a character, most of their surprises are out of left field, like a mini celebrity Smash tournament at E3.
  • Jackonomics2.0 - July 14, 2014 1:03 p.m.

Look at whose making the game Namco No shit you got another sword person
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 5:53 p.m.

One of their two main fighting franchises do not rely on weapons at all. The other one that does has way more variety in their weapon roster than Smash Bros does. In all their roster, only a fourth, or a third (at most) of their characters use anything resembling a sword, and of those that do they have wildly varying shapes and fighting styles, from humongous anime style giant blades, to chinese swords to tantos. Aside from clones, I actually doubt you can find me THREE characters that use the same kind of sword. That already makes it way more varied than Smash >_>
  • shawksta - July 14, 2014 1:50 p.m.

"so that at least is DIFFERENT from every other fucking FE character has appeared in smash so far >_>" You seem really upset man I mean, Ike and Marth arent similar in playstyle at all, they are completely different, Robin's gimmick is that you can switch between sword fighting and magic but at the same time your magic/tome is limited so you must plan out when you want to use it. We havent heard of what makes Lucina different but she is more or less a clone. The only clone from new Smash so far presented (New Smash specifically, Toon Link still exists) I know why your upset though, its the characters and context themselves. They ARE so damn similar in appearance, atleast Robin doesnt have Blue hair.
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 5:57 p.m.

There's so much you can do to separate two characters that have the almost exact same kind of weapon and build, even if they are different enough, it's still not as different as could be if one of them was say, a berserker, or an assasin >_> See, my problem is that, once again, out of a series filled which so many damn classes, weapons and fighting styles, you pick FOUR people that use the same exact weapon class >_> Imagine if Nintendo were to bring 4 characters from the entire available street fighter roster, and what they chose to bring was Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Dan. Tell me you wouldn't be pissed >_>
  • shawksta - July 14, 2014 6:40 p.m.

I know what you mean and i agree, but they are different, specifically given that Marth is a speedy character whose moves revolve around fast and quick damage, while Ike is a heavy character who relies on landing slow moving hits with massive power. I said it before and ill say it again. Blame intelligent systems for making their main characters the damn same. The priority on characters need to obviously be main characters and it would just be out of left field to take a character from one game while ignoring the main from said franchise. I mean look at Pokemon, obviously it has to be a popular pokemon from the generation representative, except they actually all are different and not all Charizard 2.0's.
  • BladedFalcon - July 14, 2014 7:34 p.m.

And hey, many circles might also tell you that Akuma and ryu are very different as well. With one being more basic but balanced, while the other is far more aggressive, and with many more options, but more fragile. Still doesn't make them more varied than if you paired Ryu with say, Blanka, instead. Sure, Intelligent systems IS partially to blame because they do make the protagonist to be the same every damn time. But still, GameFreak does the same with pokemon, yet we don't have 4 different trainers as the characters for the game :P Just as Nintendo's taking a chance with greninja, You'd think they could have used someone like Vaike or Tharja instead of Marth or Lucina...
  • shawksta - July 14, 2014 9:24 p.m.

Nah your way off, i understand your comparison point between the Street Fighter characters, but Ike and Marth ARE different, you might as well say that every sword user is a clone of Link. Roy back in Melee was clearly a clone with only little different properties that is more or less the same, but Ike is much different than Marth. Its the design that's throwing you off. You have to try it yourself. But regardless the statement still stands. They definitely shouldve chosen someone more different, though honestly at its face, Robin is a great choice given its the only (excuse me if im wrong im not familiar with the FE franchice) hero who can fight both physically with their sword and powerful magic, where the magic is emphasized as his/her more stronger use. I digress, Lucina definitely didnt need to be here, but past smash bros characters have caused the same reaction, like how Wolf was unncessesary when he ended up being yet another clone to Fox along with Falco.
  • g1rldraco7 - July 14, 2014 8:25 a.m.

More Fire Emblem characters? jesus this is crazy, but I am relieved that Caption Falco is confirmed. Too bad Super Smash Bros shows was canceled :(
  • juan-valencia - July 5, 2014 4:34 p.m.

Naruto and gara should join the fight
  • Mastanvx - July 14, 2014 8:22 a.m.

  • Dupline - July 5, 2014 3:10 a.m.

Hopefully Chrom will make in into the game, but if he doesn't, I hope Falchion is an item that other characters can fight with.
