Skyrim ships 10M, becomes Steam's fastest selling title

Zenimax announces more accolades for Bethesda's RPG

Fresh from their big “Game of the Year” win at Spike's 2011 Video Game Awards, Bethesda and its owners at ZeniMax have announced all-new reasons to bow to the altar of Skyrim. In a statement released this week, the fantasy RPG was celebrated for shipping over 10 million copies and becoming the fastest selling download on Steam.

“We are gratified that Skyrim continues to garner high review scores and accolades around the world,” said Robert Altman, ZeniMax Media Chairman and CEO, predicting, “2012 will be another huge year for our fans, with the release of the Creation Kit, as well as exciting DLC which will add to the richness of this epic adventure."

Jason Holtman, Valve's Director of Business Development, confirmed Skyrim's victory on the company's digital download service, stating, “Skyrim is the fastest selling title in Steam's history. Bethesda’s commitment to and understanding of the PC as a gaming platform shows in the great review scores, spectacular launch, and continued high player numbers that Skyrim has received.”

By ZeniMax's estimations, Skyrim has moved the equivalent of $650 million in sales across all formats since its release on November 11, with the PC version outselling all other titles in its category by three to one in its first month. Taking into account that ZeniMax shipped over 7 million copies in the first few days alone, we expect it will be celebrating the billion-dollar mark soon after the holidays. Who knows, maybe they'll add a special cake or something in the next patch.

I really want to play this game. But I have a ps3. Should I risk it and get a copy? I can always take it back if it doesn't work I suppose.

I find it funny how PC Sales for it are kicking ass but Bethesda shafted us the most with an extremely unstable release and are still trying to fix it. Maybe next time give all three platforms proper Q/A and not just the 360 Bethesda. It's clear PC Gamers love Elder Scrolls games so why not give them a treat next time instead of a lump of poop with console specific features?

    I approve of these sales.

I must applaud Bethesda for being able to not only ship an unfinished and broken game but to sell 10 million copies of it

Because it was so spectacular in spite of that people still got it (as a consolation prize, the 360 and PC versions do work. That's no excuse at all for the PS3 version, but still. Skyrim has unexpectedly become huge at my school and nobody has had any problems with it at all)

Could you seriously troll any harder in every single trend on this site? Good lord
  • MetroidPrimeRib - December 16, 2011 5 p.m.

How is that trolling? The game is extremly buggy and glitchy. Do you even know what trolling means?
  • MetroidPrimeRib - December 16, 2011 5:05 p.m.

Spectacular? How is a game that's completely overshadowed by a game released in 2002 spectacular?
  • babyhenchy1 - December 16, 2011 9:12 p.m.

Because that's highly subjective and someone might think that Skyrim is better than Morrowind. Crazy I know, that people think differently than you.
  • jasoncarter - December 16, 2011 9:17 p.m.

I have played the game over 100 hours, and have had at most, 3 crashes with over 20 different mods. If your basing your facts of the ps3 version that's fine and I'd agree, however the PC version is not a buggy and glitchy mess, period. Quit spreading misinformation. Also, about the troll In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted". Sounds about right for what you did right there. Then again, I prefer to just state the facts, so this discussion is concluded.

    See? Troll!

Skyrim can't be better then Morrowind. Morrowind has better graphics, better textures, more skills, attributes, more radiant AI, a better story, better mechanics. Everything that would make it a better game is there.
  • MetroidPrimeRib - December 17, 2011 6:07 p.m.

Modded? You have to mod the game in order to make it playable? I play the game unmodded and everywhere I turn is a glitch or texture issue. Every single frame.
  • babyhenchy1 - December 17, 2011 6:35 p.m.

Of course it can. There is NO FACT to anything you say (except the more skills and attributes but some might like less).
  • MetroidPrimeRib - December 17, 2011 9:55 p.m.

Have you even played Morrowind? Do you even know what an RPG is?
  • babyhenchy1 - December 17, 2011 10:46 p.m.

Yes I have and I do. And you don't be a douche (though given who I'm talking to, that's probably a useless statement). I personally agree that Morrowind is superior. But not everyone has the same view. Like I said, there's no fact to anything like that.
  • MetroidPrimeRib - December 18, 2011 11:17 a.m.

The most very basic thing an RPG must have is stats. Luck, Charisma, Strength, Endurance, that kind of thing. Skyrim doesn't even have that.
  • babyhenchy1 - December 18, 2011 12:07 p.m.

Of course it has stats. Maybe not the most in-depth but it has them. You're completely talking out of your ass.
  • comaqi - December 16, 2011 10:41 a.m.

    Gotta love it.
  • robertpopovic - December 16, 2011 10:36 a.m.

*Cough, I actually bought it twice. First I bought it on PS3 because I thought my pc wouldn't be able to handle it (pc-noob). Later it turned out that I can pretty much play it on max settings, so I just had to get it on pc. <3
