The Sims Social passes Farmville in user numbers

After just over a month on Facebook, EA's The Sims Social has already edged out FarmVille in terms of online users. The close competition between the two sees EA's title, at time of writing, commanding approximately 1.2 million daily active users more than Zynga's, according to social media data aggregator AppData. But this competition isn't for the top of the heap: while The Sims Social may have stolen FarmVille's #2 spot, the chart remains led by Zynga's own CityVille – which continues to outpace both titles.

When averaged out over a month, the figures put Sims still ahead of Farmville, but behind CityVille and two other Zynga titles: social strategy-RPG Empires & Allies and Texas HoldEm Poker. The victory over FarmVille, arguably the most recognizable of Zynga's apps, confirms a positive launch month for EA's Facebook spinoff, which would seem a natural fit for the long-running Sims franchise. A strong correlation between daily and monthly users suggests that new players are sticking with the title beyond a one-time try, but it'll be a few months yet before we see whether EA will establish a lasting presence to rival Zynga's domination of the Facebook market.

Sadly I enjoy the game too. :-/ My girlfriend started playing it and sent a request, currently she's my girlfriend in the game as well. Sadly my sim has more Woo hoo with his girlfriend in the game, then I do with mine.

I'm ashamed to say I have this. (I blame peer pressure) I still don't see the point. After all, if you have the ACTUAL sims game on your computer, why would you bother with something crappy like this that requires you to level up on top of the fact that you can't buy anything good right off the bat, your house size is tiny, not to mention riddled with weeds. You can only have a one level house with no basement. No cars, no fancy things until you level up or increase your skills. I don't even think you can get a job. It's like EA stripped out a lot of the stuff that made The Sims "The Sims" and just added a thing where if you don't go over to your friend's houses your sim gets bitterly depressed. Plus you can't do the really fun stuff, like cheat and build a kickass mansion with an underground bunker to rival any POTUS bunker. Heck, you can't even have more than one sim!
