RadarPlays - Streets of Rage 3

Some beat ‘em up fans swear by Final Fight as the best series in the genre, but anyone that owned a Genesis/Mega Drive knows that the true king of the brawler is the Streets of Rage franchise. GamesRadar’s most retro editors--for the record that’s Henry, Ryan, and Lucas--recently booted up the oddball third entry in the series for this special RadarPlays. Why is a cyborg wizard helping cops fight gangsters? This video won’t answer that, but it’s a lot of fun anyway.

Want to hang out with GamesRadar's editors while taking a look at retro games, new releases, and totally random experiences? RadarPlays is for you. Mondays we'll be checking out blasts from the past on RadarPlays Retro, Wednesdays we change things up to whatever we feel like playing with RadarPlays Shuffle, and Friday is packed with the strangest titles you’ve never (hopefully) heard of in RadarPlays Freaky. We'll also release RadarPlays for all the new releases, so be sure to check back!

I'm sure there was some footage of a rebooted streets of rage a few months back. Didn't really gather anything from the footage but it is a series I'd love to see return somehow. The warriors released by rockstar on ps2 was the nearest to a 'modern' streets of rage game I felt.

You can unlock the first boss as a playable character, all you have to do is hold attack after you beat him once the black screen with the score comes on you can let go of attack. To select him you have to die he is shown as a "?" when selecting your new character. Also to get Roo all you have to do is beat his "friend" with out finishing off Roo. These both work on the Xbox versions

Streets of Rage 2 is still the best 16bit beat-em-up of all time. SOR 3 was just poor in my opinion. The visuals/animations were not as smooth and crisp as it's predecessor, and the music was horrendous. Still, a nice slice of retro gaming, and worth playing to the end to witness the finale of a classic series.

Certainly a great game (and the series surpasses Final Fight in my opinion), but I think the second entry is the pinnacle of the series, though it does not have a boxing kangaroo.

This is by far my favorite RadarPlays yet! I can't believe the hours I spent doing, what you guys just did, with my best friend growing up. Fighting bad guys, accidentally hurting my partner, laughing at the stupid enemy names, all classic. Great time!
