"Project Hell" unveiled by Dead Island dev as next project

The developers behind one of 2011's most surprising hits, Dead Island, announced their next upcoming project today. While it wont necessarily be zombie-themed, Techland has said they don't really care for games with "unicorns and fairies" so we can still reasonably expect it to be a bloody mess of carnage.

The game is tentatively being called Project Hell, and will feature a dark-fantasy setting. It apparently came into being when a Dead Island coder created a mod that allowed the player to freeze zombies in place before hacking them to bits with a two-handed sword. Apparently it was cool enough that they decided to base an entire game around the concept of first-person melee/magic.

You can find more details about the project on its official blog, where they have a few developer blog posts, enemy reveals, concept art galleries, and other content for fans to scope out.

And of course, Techland isn't neglecting their multi-million-selling franchise either. They're still hard at work on Dead Island: Riptide, a standalone expansion.

tried dead island, and was not impressed in the least. graphically it wasn't interesting, and it didn't live anywhere close to what the trailer offered... being the only thing interesting of that experience. that should prove to anyone to leave this on the shelf.

Well at least it will have a brilliant trailer

Dead Island was a buggy mess, but it was still fun. Seeing as this will also be a first person hack 'n' slasher, I don't see why it wouldn't be fun too. Still, given how long it took Dead Island to come out, and the fact that after 5-ish years it was still buggy, I'm not expecting to see this game on shelves anytime soon. Especially considering they haven't actually started on it yet.

    Wasn't this just a mod?

A dark fantasy version of Dead Island sounds amazing! Hopefully their wont be game crippling bugs in this one.

I played Dead Island and thought it was a steaming pile of shit so I'll definitely pass on this one.
