After this morning's announcement of a Halo 3 demo, a Halo 3 mini-movie and new Halo 2 multiplayer maps, you thought we were done. You figured there couldn't possibly be anything more to say, and that you'd have to hunker down until next year for something new.
Clearly, you underestimated Microsoft's desire to steal PS3 and Wii's launch thunder. And, obviously, you forgot about Halo Wars. We just received a fresh piece of concept art for the 360 real-time strategy war game and couldn't resist sharing it with you, despite its near complete lack of meaningfulness.
Well, okay, we can provide some context. As the caption suggests, this is a UNSC Shortsword and will be used primarily for low level, ground-based bombing attacks. As a short-range ship with a heavy weapon load, we expect it will have to make frequent trips back to base in between laying fiery waste to Covenant structures.
Study the plane carefully and you might also notice a few visual themes at play. If a stealth bomber and Pelican drop ship had offspring that enjoyed dressing up as Master Chief, we think the metaphorically atrocious result might look a lot like this. Check out that iconic orange-visor cockpit.
Speculating even further, could the presence of aerial vehicles in Halo Wars mean similar ships will show up in Halo 3? Perhaps even be pilotable?
And you thought a single image couldn't excite you…
