Square Enix has announced a delayed Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII release date of February 11, 2014 in North America and February 14 in Europe. The PS3 and Xbox 360 game was first revealed in September 2012, when the Japanese publisher announced a 2013 launch window for the third and concluding Final Fantasy XIII title.
The updated release date was confirmed in the new E3 trailer below. The video and its accompanying screenshots, which can be seen at the top of the page, show heroine Lightning sporting a new look and facing off against former ally Snow Villiers. If you’ve lost track of the events of the past two games, you might want to check out this overview of the Final Fantasy XIII story so far. Once you’ve caught up, cast your eyes over this Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII preview.
At Sony's PS4 reveal event in February, Square Enix took to the stage to announce that a Final Fantasy title is in development for the console. Final Fantasy franchise brand director Shinji Hashimoto said more news about the game will be revealed at E3 in June. We’re also hopeful the company will use the event to break its silence on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which is rumoured to have been rebooted as Final Fantasy XV.
