Les Enfants Du Paradis review

A shining digital restoration for one of the crown jewels of French cinema, miraculously made during the German occupation. Blending history and fiction, public and private, Marcel Carné helms a monumental portrait of 19th Century Parisian theatre. Garance (Arletty) is the enigmatic model and object of desire for various men, including a brilliant mime artist (Jean-Louis Barrault) and a stage actor (Pierre Brasseur). The multi-layered screenplay, stunning sets and a terrific ensemble are just some of the enduring pleasures of a truly collaborative masterpiece.
