Kinect Gears of War an on-rails shooter which reuses bits of GoW 2? Prepare to waggle your Lancers

On a scale of 14 to 93 (with 14 being “I couldn’t give a fish’s right tit” and 93 “I think I’ve just creamed my Marcus Fenix jammies”), how excited are you about the prospect of Gears of War on Kinect? Wow, a whole 36, eh? Hold on, partner. Check that enthusiasm at the door, because it looks like the much-rumoured title will be an on-rails shooter, with movement controlled by the computer and not your ridiculous flailing arms.

Above: Y'know, like House of the Dead 2... just replace zombies in tight denim with subterranean alien scum

According to Kotaku, sources are claiming movement will be taken out of the waggling arms and legs of the player, with the game itself dictating where you go. Apparently, there’s also a demo doing the rounds which reuses “assets and events” from Gears of War 2.

This follows the recent news that Epic has trademarked the title Gears of War: Exile. Hmmm, a potentially glorified light gun game, which could force you to shake about like you’re having a fit, while playing though old bits of a two year-old game? Colour us sarcastically excited.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THE GAMES INDUSTRY!?!?! A BUCH OF DEVS ARE CLOSING THEIR DOORS, AND NOW THIS!?!?! I dunno guys, but for some reason i am really concerned about this...
  • ManlyPanda98 - February 9, 2011 8:58 p.m.

And so begins the end of the 360
  • P0LARCLAW - February 9, 2011 8:22 p.m.

    14. I've never really like GoW, and I hate kinect.
  • ChiefLethal - February 9, 2011 7:54 p.m.

Yeah, but do you really want to even PLAY an on-rails GoW?
  • Mattattack - February 9, 2011 6:41 p.m.

Maybe a lancer-sized light gun would work, which would include controls that move the camera round and also move the player. So Kinect controls where you ai, and the on-light gun controls control your movement. If it happens, I'd be very interested. Trusting Epic, I think they would make it fantastic. I've been looking forward to a Kiect game for us hardcore fans :)

I swear Cliff said that there would be no Gears of War for Kinect? I somehow don't believe this...
  • Timothy_Lemon - February 9, 2011 5:17 p.m.

imagine it would prob come bundled with some kind of light-pointer device that you hold in one hand perhaps. sounds cool to me
  • nbamike - February 9, 2011 4:19 p.m.

@extracurricular I think you just pull your finger like a real trigger. Thats if the kinect camera is capable of seeing your finger move, compared to an arm or leg. PS Move is better, motion with real buttons for a better experience, and more... everything.

    @flabslapper LMAO
  • extracurricular - February 9, 2011 2:06 p.m.

Err, how will you fire the gun? Kinect = no buttons. Jab lancer towards the screen for gunfire? Nod head to kill enemy? hold lancer in one arm and wave with other to shoot? Even with all the el cheapo preowned kinects clogging up shelves at the moment I just can't get even a little tempted by it.

Le sigh. Nobody knows how the game will work besides the vague and paraphrased "waggling arms and legs", and already it's cash grab garbage? I, for one, have more trust in the guys who gave us this generation's best(maybe) new franchise.

Kinect is a lot like 3D (I'm more referring to movies with 3D) of a year or two ago in that it's WAAAAAAY overused right now because it's the hot new thing. Much like 3D there will be a few titles that will use the technology well and make something spectacular and there will be a whole bunch of crap shoveled out the door with the label "Kinect" that are just cashing in on the craze. Some years down the road the hype will die down and the technology will be used when appropriate as a tool rather than something to slap on for a quick cash grab.

Well pack it up everybody, it was fun while it lasted... but let us remember the good times...not me though, I don't own a 360, I own a Wii AND NOW EVERYONE WILL KNOW MY PAIN
  • db1331 - February 9, 2011 1:04 p.m.

And so it begins. Just wait until other devs find out how much money they make off this garbage, and how little time and money it took to develop.
