With the Tony Hawk series making less and less impact with each new release, it's refreshing to travel back in time ten years to the series' heyday. This iPhone conversion of THPS2 is on a par with the Dreamcast version, with smooth polygonal 3D and all the levels.

The game's design is still as brilliant as it always was, with multiple goals for each level, tackled in any order you choose. Finding secret areas is still as rewarding and pulling off the bigger tricks is just as sweet. It's telling, too, that the game feels like a simulation of skateboarding rather than an OTT version of it. The touch screen buttons take some getting used to but, once you do, you'll find heaven in a half-pipe.

You are right that the Tony Hawk games have died because I saw Tony Hawk Ride for £30 in HMV yesterday. But THPS2 is still a great game

LOL. "Best combo - 1 Trick." Kinda wish I could try this out, my PS1 disc is really scratched up.

I was looking forward to this but was a bit dubious after reading reviews saying the controls were awful and the best bits of the OST were missing. I did have a quick bash at it on a demo unit and the controls weren't great, but not the worst I've seen for an iPhone game. It's still not the ideal platform for this kind of game by any stretch, I get way more enjoyment from RTS' or small mini casual games that manage to actually benefit from a touch screen.

Despite the game's excellence, it doesn't need any more publicity. I, and so many others, would appreciate it if you featured games from indie developers.
