Game music of the dead: Super Meat Boy

Shares

Game: Super Meat Boy

Song: C.H.A.D.'s Broken Wind (Dark World)

Composer: Danny Baranowsky (db soundworks)

Above: Chapter 2 Dark World from Super Meat Boy

All week we've been digging up spooky and creepy game music . That's great for getting into the Halloween spirit, but given that it's Friday and the weekend parties are about to fire up, maybe it's time to sample some upbeat, dance-y stuff that also happens to retain a zombie-thriller vibe. And what's this? A song from Super Meat Boy that fits that exact description!

If you haven't tried SMB yet, get on it. We gave it a 9 and utterly adore its hard-as-balls (but still remarkably fair) gameplay, and the avalanche of old-school game references just puts it over the top. But if great design and retro shout outs still aren't enough, the entire soundtrack is one of the year's best, and this track - taken from a gloomy hospital area, of course - manages to instill a bit of fear while we tap our foot and bob our head to the beat. Great for pre-party Halloween drinks!

Above: There's also an 8-bit version, found in Chapter 2's Warp Zone area

Like what you hear? Then get your torrenting ass over to the official soundtrack page and NAME YOUR PRICE for the album. Well, as long as it's $4 or up, but you get the idea. Support brilliant indie efforts like this and we guarantee you better games in the future.*

*We don't actually make games, so we can't be held accountable for that statement. But surely Team Meat will put the SMB game/soundtrack money to good use!

No wonder I like this song, "Made with Propellerheads' Reason 4.0, Steinberg's Cubase Studio 5, Fender Guitars, Line 6 POD XT, KORG Keyboards and KRK Systems Monitors." quality stuff.

Man that's a fun song to indeed bob your head to. I just played it three times now ahaha, can't get enough. I tried Super Meat Boy's demo and ehh it was ok but I already own N+ which I felt was very similar to SMB.

I haven't got super meat boy because I don't have a 360. I don't get why they didn't bring it out on PSN. If it comes to PSN I will buy it day one

Very glad to see the Super Meat Boy love. It really is a great game, and the music is outstanding. It's $4 and you get about 30 songs. The soundtrack, like the game, is a great deal. But it definitely isn't for everybody. If the difficulty intimidates you, just try the demo. It's a great barometer for what playing the whole game is like.

I absolutely love the game and the soundtrack. Not too long until I get 100%. I bought the soundtrack yesterday, and It's amazing!

Little nervous trying this game. im not exactly good with hard games. I cant even play Mega Man 9. I do wonder why they opted out on bringing this game to PSN when they are putting it out on the Wii and stuff like that as well. I would think they would sell more on PSN then the Wii.)

I third Henry's comment. Super meat boy is amazing and everyone should buy it.(and the soundtrack is obviously fantastic.)

What a great soundtrack and a great game! I bought the soundtrack the day it went on sale.
  • AlmightyFuzz - October 29, 2010 8:45 p.m.

I second Henry's comment. You can't call yourself a core gamer if you don't own (or at the very least play) Super Meat Boy

I fully support this entry! (Buy Super Meat Boy)
