Free Men review

Like Days Of Glory , Free Men offers a North Arican perspective on France’s dark years under German occupation in WW2.

Tahar Rahim ( A Prophet ) plays an a political Algerian immigrant in Paris who, through a friendship with a handsome Jewish singer (Mahmud Shalaby), becomes involved in an underground network based around a local mosque.

Modest in both budget and impact, it’s nonetheless intelligently executed, with a typically fine performance from Michael Lonsdale as the Muslim rector keeping German authorities at bay via both charm and cunning.
