Francis Lawrence talks up the love triangle in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Francis Lawrence has been discussing what we can expect from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire , and suggests that it will be both visually and thematically different from its predecessor.

One of the most stylistically notable elements of the first film was director Gary Ross’s decision to shoot the film handheld, but it’s a technique Lawrence is quick to distance himself from.

“No shaky cam,” says Lawrence, in reference to the frenetic action sequences of the first film. “I think a lot of people will be happy to hear that.”

As for the story itself, Lawrence is keen to talk up the romantic side of things, stressing that the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta and Gale will be brought to the fore this time around.

“I felt the love story in general was a bit buried in the first one,” says Lawrence. “I wanted to bring the love story to the surface. And when I say love story, I mean the triangle.”

We’ll find out how successful he’s been when the film opens in the UK on 21 November 2013.
