Zero Dark Thirty
, Kathryn Bigelow's much-anticipated follow-up to
The Hurt Locker
, has released a first teaser trailer, exploring the US military intelligence operation to track down and eliminate Osama Bin Laden.
The film will set out to tell the unseen story behind the assassination of the terrorist leader on 2 May 2011, when the Navy's SEAL Team Six broke into his compound and finally ended a ten year hunt for the world's most wanted man.
The first trailer is heavy on tension and fraught CIA shouting, but fairly light on actual footage. Still, it should give you some idea of what to expect from Bigelow's latest look at American military practice.
Take a look, below…
The film is scripted by The Hurt Locker 's Mark Boal, and he insists that despite the sensitive material, any political leanings he might harbour have been kept firmly to himself. "There’s no political agenda in the film," he says. "Full stop. Period. A lot of people are going to be surprised when they see the film. For example, the President is not depicted in the movie. He’s just not in the movie.”
"It’s a thriller, it’s a drama, it’s a mystery, it’s historical," says Bigelow of the film. "It’s one of the great stories of our time. It traces the anatomy of the decade long hunt for the world’s most wanted man."
Starring Kyle Chandler, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Mark Strong, Jessica Chastain and Mark Duplass, Zero Dark Thirty will open in the US on 19 December 2012, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
