Excited. I'm interested to see what kind of crazy this villian is.

Going to the Himalayas. For some reason the name Far Cry starts to make sense.

If I don't get to go on a drug trip and kill a Yeti. I'm gonna be pissed.

The first thing I thought of was if we were going to encounter some Yetis. Yetis while on drugs is even better!

Two vital questions on my mind: 1) Will there be a map editor? This might seem like an obvious inclusion to some but Ubisoft has systematically removed all the amazing features that FCIP MP had. The last amazing feature left is the editor itself. 2) Will they fix the absolute garbage lobby system and properly allow hosts to play their maps?

It looks like the URL is "far-cry-4-review"...

There is a connection between Far Cry 1 and 2, which is the Jackal, who is the main character from the first game.

All I see is palette swaps. The Tibetan monks are basically the Rakyat, the new villain looks like a combination of Vaas and the other villain that no one remembers, and the Himalayas are basically a new playground to play in that's covered in snow instead of greenery. I really see nothing significant here.

I share a bit in your skepticism. There's a good chance that it will turn out to be a fantastic game, but I'm worried that it will be more or less Far Cry 3. Which, again, isn't necessarily bad, but I definitely do not want this becoming annualized like Assassin's Creed.

I am not expecting a big change in mechanics from this one, nor am I expecting them to annualise the Far Cry franchise like they did with AC. The reason Ubisoft can annualise AC is that its set in different settings and different time periods, meaning there's an amazingly diverse selection of places they pick, meaning lots of variety. They still end up focusing on countries with white people in charge, strangely enough, but anyway. Far Cry doesn't have that luxury. It's set in the modern age, and they've already been to the desert, the jungle, and now some icy mountains, and there isn't a lot left in terms of setting. If the villain hadn't felt oddly familiar, even though I've never seen anything like him before, and if the idea of Tibetan monks didn't immediately scream 'Rakyat' to me, then I'd be more welcoming of FC4. In terms of narrative and themes, it seems too similar to FC3, and the mountainous terrain and snowy scenery isn't enough to entice me otherwise. I can't say anything for certain until E3, though. If the villain turns out to be insane, though, no way. The first game handled those themes too well with the drug trips and the flashbacks, there's no way this game can do anything marginally different, or better.

Nice to see Julian Assange has moved on to bigger and better things since the whole Wiki Leaks thing. Can't wait for this. The Himalayas are such a cool place to set an open world game so I'm expecting a good variety of environments and hopefully some equally incredible was to use it against the enemy like using fire and the wind direction to burn down forests in previous games. I'm going to be very happy this winter.

Anybody else see the cover art and thought it was a joke?
  • shawksta - May 15, 2014 3:24 p.m.

    I definitely did.
