QOTW: What band do you now love because of music games?

Answer our weekly question and check out our favorite user answers from last week!

Words: Tyler Wilde, GamesRadar US

Every week the hosts of TalkRadar present and answer a new "Question of the Week" - a personal inquiry which unearths some of our deepest, and sometimes most sinister, gaming memories. Everyone is encouraged to answer each week's question, so go ahead, tell us your most glorious, nostalgic, or shameful story!

This week's question:

What band do you now love because of music games?

Guitar Hero, Rock Band and other rhythm games have introduced a lot of bands to gamers who otherwise may have never heard of them. Have any bands stuck themselves onto your musical taste buds because you played their song in a game?

Answer this week's question in the comments!

Questions can also be answered in the QOTW forum thread. Our favorite posts this week will be read next week on TalkRadar 66, and appear in the next edition of this article. Listen to TalkRadar 65 on Friday for our answers!

Last week's question:

What's your favorite N64 game of all time?

Below are a few of last week's answers that tickled our collective fancies, but since we can't feature them all here, check out last week's article and forum thread for more...

"Turok 2 : Seeds of evil will always be an amazing experience for me personally. Most of the time i just used to swim around because i was about 3 and really scared to kill any of the enemies. I still loved it however and it was one of the first FPS's (Goldeneye was technically first, another beloved game) that i ever played and allowed me to discover the wonders of swimming in video games."

"Well for me, it's gotta be Banjo-Tooie. I couldn't tell you how many hours I sunk into that game, and to this day is my favorite collect-a-thon game out there, as I haven't played many since. Too bad my N64 stopped working, but I got over it when it came out on XBLA. Hoorah for nostalgia."

"I learned that other than Mario, I only loved N64 games that didn't end with 64."

"Hands down Paper Mario. I learned to read playing that game. (It came out when I was about five) I remember falling asleep playing that game because my eyelids were too weary to stay open. Collected all the badges, beat the Dojo master 3 times, and delivered all the mail. Baking the cake was a nightmare though, took me at least 20 tries."

"Has to be Pokémon Snap. Loved the rare occasions when I would do to my cousin's house and demand to play it. "No, I don't want to play Super Mario 64, I want to play Pokémon Snap".He wished he never got it by the time I was finished with it. Oh, how it was so much hyped.. I wish I could relive it's pixelated glory."

"I played this game for over 100 hours. Decent story, multiple endings and excellent gameplay customization make a unique experience each play through. This is my favorite N64 game period. I wish SOMEONE would make an online ogre battle game. It would be perfect for XBLA and PSN and would sell more copies then a princess daisy sex tape."

"I have no idea why. Sooooooooooo much nostalgia though."

"Jet Force Gemini. I used to go over to my friends house after school and play the multplayer with him all the time. It was awesome. And I loved the gory deaths of the big ants and the little furbies."

Tanks to World Tour I discovered,(or should I say experienced) Jimi Hendrix. "Purple Haze, with it's raw guitar power was perfectly matched with the soothing "The Wind Cries Mary. Watchmen also played it's part with "All Along The Watchtower" but by the time all the D.L.C. came out I was hooked.

LOTS of 'em. But I'd have to say the biggest ones are Rage Against the Machine (I always liked "Killing in the Name", but it was "Bulls on Parade" that got me hooked) and Airbourne (who I never would have heard of had it not been for "Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast" in GH:WT.

rhythm games have only made me hate.

where i was once undecided on certain bands i can now not tollerate them. lacuna coil, afi, bon jovi, the who. why does rock band unplugged have such a hard on for pinball wizard?

Got to be the band "Stricken" and their song "Down with the Sickness" in Rock Band 2. The note progressions and kick-ass music video style that RB has really made me pumped for the chorus.

I know it doesnt count as a music game but ver since sonic the hedgehog 2, i will go on youtube and listen to the various tunes and songs from different games, my favourite being belive in myself from sonic adventure!

Although I hadn't thought it possible, GH3 actually made me hate Poison more than I already did.

As with silvereye, mine isn't really a music game, although arguably it involves a ton of rhythm, but The Futurehead's 'Decent Days and Nights' from Burnout 3 (aka God's own racing game) has to be the only song that has truly enhanced racing in Burnout for me. It has enough tempo to keep with the graphics; well ok, mixture of insanely blurry objects pretending to be cars that will f*** you and your car up in an instant. However, it stood out most when a crash sent me rocketing right as the chorus kicked in.

In short... Epic

@didideve

umm... the band is "Disturbed" but they played both songs called "Stricken" and "Down with the sickness"
troever  - 3 months 2 days ago
oh but mine would have to be "Genghis Tron"

its not in any rhythm game

they should put Kanye west on a music game cos most of the music and bands on rock band nd guitar hero dont cater for rap lovers tastes

GH3 got me into metallica. I used to be one of those idiots that though metallica was for those crazy heavy metal freaks that were always on some kind of drug. But playing 'one' made me realise that metallica are one of the greatest bands to ever pick some instruments and play.

Now whenever I hear metallica you will see me picking up my trusty air guitar

Lacuna Coil was introduced to me by Rock Band and I've loved them from then on. Singer Cristina Scabbia has a beautiful voice that can drive grown men to tears. Goth metal at its finest.

With rock band 2 i found Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed. Also i liked the gorillaz but for some reason deleted them from my music so when they came out as dlc last week i rediscovered them. :)

also, I feel that music games have ruined bands I used to love like guns 'n roses and ACDC, made them too mainstream and now every 13 year old with an xbox loves them.
